Aura was an interesting ability. Sometimes it put him into more trouble than he could imagine, but most of the time it could be pretty handy. Even if he only used it for less than a year, Lucas knew enough to be able to discern certain things.
Like now, for instance. Now, while the aura surrounding a Pokemon like Darkrai would be foreboding and full of fear…Lucas could also pick up a sense of sadness here. The cry he heard seemed to confirm that train of thought. That made him curious.
“Hello?” Most people probably would leave things like this alone, but Lucas wasn’t exactly most people. If his hunch was right, he’d have a heck of a time trying to figure things out…but really, what’s the worst that can happen?
🌒 ❝ H-hello... Are you going to run away? ❞
Dᴀʀᴋʀᴀɪ ᴘᴇʀᴋᴇᴅ ᴜᴘ, his head peeking out of the shadows with interest. Most humans would have already fled by this point, not wanting to be anywhere near such a terrifying Pokémon. In truth, Darkrai was only scary because his Nightmare Aura, designed to keep enemies away, activated whenever he was anxious- which was often. Ever since he lost his title as Nightmare Guardian, he'd been hated by everyone. All he really wanted was to be treated like everyone else.
Maybe an Aura user would be the key to that? Darkrai could sense something odd about this particular human; he wanted to learn more already. Everyone else just ran away while this one stood still, the first human to defy his expectations of the world. So he carefully shifted closer, still reluctant to leave his shadowy hiding spot completely.
❝ Unless... you're not afraid of my nightmares? ❞
Darkrai's eyes widened, hoping his assumption was right.
