They’re so perfect I can’t help but assume this was on purpose! But for some reason (maybe to keep Eridan as an enemy?) they scrapped it- this is why they’ve NEEEEVER ever met in canon! They’d get along too well and Eridan would become a Good Guy, getting a Character Arc and everything~

If I had a nickle for every time a walking ray of sunshine who is literal competency porn emerged from an underground mid-century time capsule of a fallout shelter, only to encounter a cynical but strangely wholesome wastelander that helps them navigate the complexities of a morally grey world and then they fall in love...then I'd have two nickles.

I like thinking about scenarios but not writing them because tell me why I’m thinking of the Ghoul/Cooper deciding to win back Lucy’s forgiveness and ultimately admit that he loves her. Like he just does stuff for her automatically without her asking (acts of service), is kinder to her (in his own way), and even treats people (a little bit) better just to see her eyes start to soften again but it’s going to take a bigger grand gesture because I mean…he did kind of stab her in the back and broken that very fragile trust that they were building with each other on their journey….
So what’s the grand gesture you might ask? Well of course it’s a good old times barnyard dance that is taking place at a random settlement that they had decided to take refuge in after retrieving Lucy from the clutches of her evil father.
Cue, the Ghoul/Cooper having a mental breakdown because he doesn’t really know how to be that kind gentleman again but maybe he never really was in the first place?
Imagine him in his cowboy gettup, freshen up of course to impress Lucy, staring in a mirror at himself, clutching wasteland flowers in his hand as he starts a whole monologue about how this Ghoul character is a just a costume and him being Cooper Howard was just a costume too because everybody just saw him as a movie Hollywood actor who player characters on Tv.
He didn’t know who he was… so why would he try to burden Lucy with all of this just because she was the only person who actually understood what it’s like to be forced into a mold to please others?
And just for comedic relief, Thaddeus is there off to the side like “wow man…I mean-that sounds rough…”

Oh, this is making me super nervous. she's 'geographically lost' by the season finale. I really wonder what the hell is happening in those last two episodes😭
Walton Goggins keeps saying the Ghoul cares about Lucy, specifying not like a daughter. I think it’s a lot more complex and inevitable than that.
The Ghoul has said he and Lucy are the same person. He mostly says it like, I was stupid and you are still stupid.
What this really means is that both of them suffered extremely intimate, world-ending betrayals from important people they thought were their moral compasses.
This was devastating to Cooper Howard and profoundly changed him. He has been broken about this for centuries. Plus, the behaviors/motivations of Wasteland people are so screwy, amoral, and upsetting that he’s really stopped thinking about it at all. People aren’t people to him anymore. They are obstacles to finding his family.
But his situation is very much like Lucy’s, so being around her is reminding him of this prewar trauma that shattered him from a ship into planks.
He literally cannot help but see Lucy as a person. Even without a theory of mind, he can fully project himself onto her. He knows what she is going through because he’s done this.
He CARES about her because he can’t NOT care about her. Her mere proximity is forcing him to find his way back to himself. She is humanizing him.
So there’s a lot of complex interesting character work going on here. She is not a daughter to him; she IS him. She is a whole entire person when nobody else is. There is no avoiding it. Changing each other is inevitable.
