Oh my god
You keep saying you don't have chronic pain but also that you can't be physically active without pain??? But also bed rotting causes you pain????
Surely every day you are either being somewhat physically active *or* bed rotting, right? So are you having pain everyday???????
If you are having pain every single day that is in fact chronic pain.
I don't have chronic pain. By "pain" concerning exercise I've just meant the muscle ache/burning sensation that you get from working out (it's a legit thing, you can ask fitness enthusiast gym people and they will 100% verify that working out hurting your muscles is not only real, it's normal and expected), and the only reason it happens to me so quickly and severely when I do some sort of exercise is because I don't do that enough. I'm out of shape so the amount of exercise that it takes to cause the burn is a lot less than it should be.
And the bed rotting only starts to hurt when you've been laying on one side too long and start feeling the pressure making your shoulder and hip uncomfortable, so you change sides. This has probably something to do with our current mattress being too firm for me (goldilocks situation, it's too soft for my boyfriend so it's an uncomfortable compromise for both) so that's my own doing.
I don't have pain every single day from doing ordinary tasks. I start hurting from doing things wrong, because that's my body's way of informing me that I'm doing things wrong, and it stops when I stop doing things incorrectly. Bodies are supposed to do that.
So what I'm hearing is "I don't have chronic pain I just suck at having a body" which honestly same if true
I'm the type of a person, that if you ask me "when was the last time you did [maintenance task]?" about something I own and that I'm supposed to maintain regularly, 8 times out of 10 I genuinely didn't know that that's a task I have to do, and I have never heard those words in that order before.
My physical presence included.
Ok but working out shouldn't cause pain
You can take to the edge and your muscles can have a bit of an ache the next day but it shouldn't actually be painful
That's what physiotherapists and personal trainers have told me. Work out enthusiasts are not the best for advice because the line between work out enthusiasts and self harm through working out is porous
Work out experts say it shouldn't hurt because if it's hurting you're doing damage not exercise
The after work out ache should just be a mild ache, that can even feel pleasant, in the muscles you worked not actual pain all over
It's important to make that very clear
Okay wait, english is not my first language. What's the difference between a pain and an ache?
An ache is more of a dull sustained pain. We usually pair it with a body part like stomach ache, headache, ear ache, tooth ache, or muscle ache. Also the connotation makes it sound less severe, headache vs migraine kind of thing.
reading bad media takes online will never compare to the exquisite torture that is trying to have a conversation about basic literary analysis with your own family members
discussing media with people online: can you please put down the greek mythology for a second and actually read the text in front of you
discussing media with your parents:
Unironically happened with my mom at the movies.
Took her to see The Boy and the Heron, the movie starts with sirens and no visual indicator as to what they were for, "What do those sirens mean?" I don't know! We are both watching this for the first time and we've seen maybe 10 seconds it! Observe!
(Then at the other end my older siblings are much better at media analysis than I am so they catch a lot of stuff I don't. A lot of our media based conversations are them connecting dots while I nod and occasionally mention supporting evidence for their observations)
"Love/sex is what makes us human" Wrong. It's the obsession with rectangles. look around you and count the number of rectangles you see.
Agott's talent
Vague spoilers up until Silver Eve (around chapter 62)
I've been thinking about how Agott was kicked out of her family for supposedly being too mediocre when it comes to magic, at least in comparison to her mother, and how a common interpretation is that she is indeed not talented, but a hard worker. While I do agree that this is a valid take, especially considering how Shirahama loves to flip common tropes around, I don't think this is entirely true. Agott appears to have talent when it comes to purely decorative magic, as we can see during the Silver Eve arc, and it's even implied when Coco is defending her while they are at the Great Hall (making plushies dance is apparently quite complicated). It just so happens that this is the kind of magic that is considered useless, because it is rather impractical. I can't help but wonder if this is meant to parallel how artists in real life are often told that what they do isn't a "real job". And what is a child supposed to do when she is told her talents are worthless? Of course, she would start hiding her favorite magic and try and learn all of the "useful" spells. Yet she will never quite reach the expected brilliance, instead she will only follow the path of other people's expectations. Not because she wants to, but because this is how it is supposed to be. I believe this is one of the reasons why she struggles to be as creative and daring as Coco in stressful situations. After all, Agott's own ideas were never considered good enough for the Arklaum family, so why even bother experimenting? No wonder she sometimes gets envious of Coco's seemingly easygoing nature and unconventional, but successful ideas when it comes to magic.
Speaking of Coco, I think it's poetic how it was also one such decorative and impractical spell (Olruggio's glowing stones) that made her love magic, and it was later Agott's light magic that reignited that same love. And it took Coco feeling down for Agott to actually want to use her own spells for the sake of someone else. Considering how that interaction seemed to make both of them more confident, I believe we'll be seeing more of Agott's actual talent in the future, just like Coco has been getting better and better at the technical aspect of casting.
Spoilers for chapter 93 of Witch Hat Atelier:
Page Of Foreshadowing From Witch Hat Kitchen
It's the parasitic tree. He's not gaining weight because there is a parasitic tree that is 100% feeding off of whatever nutrients he's consuming because if it wasn't it would've died already.
Like, sure it's a magical parasitic tree that could be subsisting itself off of magic, but if it could do that it wouldn't need to kill its host to sprout in the first place.
Also this is such subtle foreshadowing too. When you first read it you can go "Oh it's a joke about how Qifrey has a faster metabolism and can eat whatever." because some people are Just Like That. But reading it with the context that Qifrey is hosting a parasite it becomes "Oh, the Silverwood is definitely burning a bunch of calories so he probably has to eat a lot to combat that," which also reinforces the side story emphasis on how important food is and how important it is that it also tastes good.
Interesting lore bit that was mentioned only once is that Brimmed Caps put their entire operation on hold four years before the story began.
But what if it was exactly four years ago that Coco received the magic book at the festival? It's just a theory, but it makes Brimmed Caps' fascination with Coco even more unsettling. For some reason, Iguin finding her was such a big deal for them that they put everything they were doing on hold, went into hiding, and waited for their "saviour" to discover the magic. Such a borderline cultish behaviour makes me really worried what exactly they're planning to do with her.
I've got an unnerving addition!
Remember how in the beginning of the story when Coco first tries to watch Qifrey cast a spell she's thwarted by the curtains being closed? And how immediately after there was a violent gust of wind that was strong enough to move her whole body after it ripped a sheet off the line and carried it directly into her? And how that made her realize there was a door further up the roof that she could use to go inside and watch?
I'm very confident that was Iguin's doing.
The timing was too perfect and the strength of the wind was unnaturally high. And Quifrey is one of the few pointed caps who would actually hesitate to erase someone's memories over being a victim of forbidden magic (Who also happens to have enough sway to make everyone else let him get away with that).
Combine that with Iguin knowing exactly when Coco took the first test, and Iguin ambushing her almost immediately after she leaves Qifrey's side outside of Atelier grounds for the first time, it becomes incredibly clear that Iguin has been obsessively stalking Coco since before the story began.
olly locking the fuck in whenever he needs to hit a nasty lil back arch
saying this in a soft tone but i dislike this presentation of artemis 2 in the least political way possible as a wholesome and uncomplicated win for humanity as a whole like it's not american propagandism of the highest and most vulgar degree
"For me, the most ironic token of [the first human moon landing] is the plaque signed by President Richard M. Nixon that Apollo 11 took to the moon. It reads: "We came in peace for all Mankind." As the United States was dropping 7 ½ megatons of conventional explosives on small nations in Southeast Asia, we congratulated ourselves on our humanity. We would harm no one on a lifeless rock."
Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space
I agree with everything above but I do want to say something to Prev:
During Trump's call everyone on Artemis II ignored him. Like after he said something they went silent for a few minutes (While playing with the microphone) and then the crew asked Ground Control if the signal was still up.
Yes a lot of it is being framed to be pro-America propaganda but it definitely isn't landing as pro-Trump.

Genuinely think the incorrect assumption here was age of the userbase. I don't remember which one was my first but it was either Magical Pokemon Journey (Which is completely unrelated to Pokemon Adventures although I did read that a bit later) or Yotsuba.
Back in my day (early to mid 2000s) we only had access to what the libraries and local bookstores decided to get, which was often either wasn't much, just the gateway series, or completely random.

moonās haunted.
i don't know if this is a controversial take but frankly i believe a lot of the dandadan high school cast's problems could be solved if they all just dated each other
well well well
look how the turn tables
the other day i saw a tiktok of a woman talking about how her hyper-militant abusive parents would sometimes punish her by ātaking away her nameā and referring to her as a prisoner number. genuinely terrible stuff, obviously. but i skimmed the comments and. listen. i truly DO NOT mean to dunk too hard on this person, like they could be a kid or something, but.
just. breathtaking. imagine if your primary reference for the concept of the un-personing of prisoners was (check notes) a book series about owls.
Honestly the Guardian of Ga'Hoole books were definitely written as an introductory reference for concepts like cult indoctrination tactics, how bad white supremacy is, censorship / restriction of information, etc. Also one of the spin offs has a heavy focus on ableism and eugenics.
But having it be your primary source of reference is wild (Unless, as OP mentioned, you are a child. In which case the series is doing its job of making you aware of these concepts).
*gathers all of the people in the world who write the number 7 with a little dash in the center of it so I can study them like little critters and find out what makes them do that*
Thereās actually a lot of history regarding the development writing systems and why there are different visual representations of numerals, but the short answer is: itās regional, and you probably picked up how to make your numbers look based on your parents or your primary school teachers
Hello, I also do this! I learned it from my mom (nurse), but thereās another, more important reason it persists in my handwriting habits.
In fourth grade I briefly stopped and my math grade immediately dropped because my teacher, my parents, and even my siblings were reading my ā7sā as ā1s.ā No, it was not my handwriting. They were distinct characters when they were written side by side. Being corrected on something that wasnāt incorrect in the first place was annoying and a huge waste of time because I was constantly told to redo work.
I changed the way I wrote ā1sā and switched back to dashing my ā7sā and still do it to this day because of how annoying and unfair the situation was, to the point that the font I commissioned based off of my handwriting has it as well.
Itās for clarity, and others reinforced it. Hope this helps.
I had the opposite happen to me where I wrote a 1 and the teacher assumed I meant a 7.
Basically when I write a 1 in a context where it can only be a number I just draw a single vertical line. If it's being written somewhere that it could be mistaken for a lowercase l or an uppercase I then I would draw it with the additional base and pointed top to be clearer. But this teacher didn't realize that and instead of looking at the other 7s I had written on the same page she assumed the lone 1 was a poorly written 7.
YOU hates terfs
rb if u hates terfs
Theyāre still fighting me about JK Rowling being a bad writer but her writing is bad. It is not good, it is bad. Iām not a lit major or whatever but I have read enough books to assess when one is 1.) well written 2.) well written but not fun to read 3.) poorly written but fun to read or 4.) poorly written and not fun to read. Her books fall into the 4th category.
I am not saying she is not good at writing because I do not like her (I donāt like her) but because I have the ability to read.
Honestly I think the main reason Harry Potter got as popular as it did is because they had a surplus of talent working on the main movies.
Like, every child actor from the main characters to the supporting cast does a fantastic job. And the adult cast has a bunch of incredibly strong performances as well. Pretty much every well quoted line from the series is well quoted because of the actor's delivery and not the line itself. "Turn your pages to 394" is a boring line that was made interesting by Alan Rickman's performance.
Then you get into everything surrounding the acting. Set design, practical and digital effects, sound design, score composition, scene composition, etc. The 8 movies of the core series do very good work on all these fronts, the only ones with kind of dated effects are the first two movies, and even then a lot of it still holds up. The guy who made the score for the first 3 movies was the same person who did the score for Star Wars, Jaws, and Jurassic Park, and every composer working on the movies after him had to base their work off of his to make everything cohesive.
Most importantly: Someone axed out some of the worst scenes and plotlines or rewrote them altogether. In the movies most of the racist House Elf Slavery subplot is gone. Watching the movies, you would not expect Hogwarts to be partially run off of slave labor and you're expected to believe that House Elves deserve to be freed (Although the movies still include Creature and his name is kind of all you need to hear to know how he's portrayed. So, still bad. Also they don't cut the antisemitism which is also really bad. My point here is the cuts and edits made the story better not good). Plus Harry breaks the Elder Wand in the movies to stop the fighting over it, which is just logically a better conclusion to that storyline than "I'll put it back in Dumbledore's grave and hope no one kills or disarms me to restart the cycle of violence (Don't worry about how easy it is to cast a disarming spell I have plot armor lol)". And those are just two examples of improvements the movies made.
They're just objectively well made movies in pretty much every aspect except writing.
Contrast that with the Fantastic Beasts movies. Both* of them have outdated CGI, the music isn't nearly as memorable, and the acting is just ok. And they bombed critically. They bombed hard. Those movies made money but the general response from those who watched them ranged from "Meh" to "I want my money back". People had to pay attention to the plot for two movies, about a third of people dropped it after the first one and everyone who stuck it out to watch the second one was slapped with "The antagonist wants to prevent the Holocaust and the protagonists kinda want to just let it happen because 'it's not their problem'". Which is just a legitimately insane thing to let get into the final draft.
Basically I think Harry Potter's, and by extension JKR's, popularity is built on the work of literally every other person who touched the franchise. She didn't compose the theme. She didn't do the practical or digital effects. She didn't do anything that people actually remember about the movies, and the moment when a movie has to live or die by her writing the franchise loses momentum instead of gaining it.
*While I was looking up stuff to make sure I was getting all the objective facts correct I discovered they made a 3rd Fantastic Beasts movie and I know that one did horribly because I never even heard about it before this.
