#watched without a laugh track #i was 25 at the time - am now 27 #i am a lesbian #watched it via 🏴‍☠️ two years ago #this was after watching a couple of reruns on tv *with* the laugh track. i found it insufferable!!!#i find laugh tracks annoying especially when the entire audience laughs full throttle at every other line #there are different types of jokes and quips through mash (and indeed any show) and not all of them evoke a laugh out loud reaction #(that doesn’t mean they’re not funny - just a different kind of funny)#so i find it silly to have people laughing out loud at the same level like this throughout a show #it also drowns out dialogue and other things at times #more than anything though #i find them patronising as if i - an intelligent viewer - wouldn’t otherwise be able to figure out when to laugh myself #if a show is truly funny then it won’t have to tell you when to laugh #i cringe when i hear laugh tracks because it more often draws my attention to how *bad* a joke/setup is #<- that’s more general/not mash specific #good luck with your paper!#and feel free to dm me if you think i can help!

“Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” is a television film that served as the series finale of the American television series M*A*S*H. Closing out the series’ 11th season, the 2-hour episode first aired on CBS on February 28, 1983, ending the series’ original run.

In the United States, the episode drew 105.97 million total viewers and a total audience of 121.6 million, more than both the Super Bowl and the Roots miniseries. From 1983 to 2010, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” remained the most watched television broadcast in American history, passed only in total viewership (but not in ratings or share) by Super Bowl XLIV. As of 2010, it stands as the most-watched finale of any television series, as well as the most-watched episode as of 2018.
