Our scene is from "Significant Other", a play written by Joshua Harmon in 2015. He is a New York City based playwright. He graduated from Northwestern University, Carnegie University, and Juilliard. He is the recipient of 2 Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play.
Jordan: a gay guy who wants to find the love of his life
He has 3 best friends
Laura, Vanessa, and Kiki
Laura is his closest friend
Kiki is working same company with him
Laura: Jordan's best friend, who used to be his roommate. She is kind, funny, and not one for tradition. She marries Tony.
Vanessa: She's hesitant to fall in love, and she is very cautious. She marries Roger.
Kiki: A fun, party girl. She's somewhat promiscuous in nature, and has her wild spirit tamed by the 'shackles' of domesticity.
This story starts with Kiki's bachelorette party. Jordan wards off lonely nights by spending time with his trio of close girl friends. As the plot develops, Jordan starts feeling loneliness due to those three of his best friends eventually getting their own partners, as his simultaneous attempts at finding love fail. This causes him to lose his "significant others." In this story, Jordan discovers that the only thing harder than finding love is supporting the loved ones around you when they do.
This image represents a vulnerable person at heart, from noise to silence to only hearing his own heartbeat. He felt out of place with everyone and fell into loneliness. It's like in the play that Jordan would love to be in love, but that's easier said than done. So until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close-knit girlfriends. But as singles’ nights turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan finds that supporting the ones you love can be just as impossible as finding love itself.
The first picture shows a man standing alone in the crowd, much like Jordan in the play. The friends around him like kiki laura and vanessa slowly found their boyfriends , but he didn't find the other at the party.
The second picture shows a girl with two faces, one of which is trying to turn to the front. It also means that we have to work hard to live even when life is not going well. Get out of negativity.
The central message is: Life is lonely. Movies or fairy tales often have a happy ending, but life is colorful. The only thing we need to believe is that we will be better in the future.

This play feels a little bit like a tragic sitcom. Jordan's failed attempts at love make you really start to feel bad for him, especially as you see everything fall into place perfectly for those around him. However, the quick-paced and linear events make it feel like an episode of Friends or Seinfeld. While each scene works well together, they can also, for the most part, stand on their own and still make sense. For this reason, I think a sitcom-like soundtrack works best. Even dramatic sounds like live-audience "Awww..."s and "*gasp*"s work.
Jordan's internal struggles throughout isolate him. For this, I think the lighting should be polarizing. It should emphasize how lonely and hopeless Jordan feels. However, there is many points where we celebrate weddings. These scenes should be party-like. I think Jordan should be kept in a consistent singular-light that separates him from the rest of the action. He's depressed, and that is what depression feels like.
The costuming should be simple, casual, but easy to transform. We switch from parties, to hang-outs, to work, to dates, to hanging out with good ol' Helene.
As far as the colors go, all single characters should have dark clothing. As people get into relationships, their clothing should get more colorful, and then be very vibrant once they are married. By the end, Jordan will be the only character left in dark clothing.
Once again, the general vibe is that of a sitcom. I think the set should be able to rotate, with the main set being that of a small apartment. There should also be an outdoor setting, a club setting, and an office setting.
