I can’t stop thinking about this telephone.
The Wind-Phone (kaze no denwa) is a disconnected telephone that a man named Itaru Sasaki installed in his garden as a private place to grieve the loss of his cousin. But, following the 2011 tsunami, word about the phone spread, & has reportedly been visited & used by over 10,000 people since.
Anna Thomford, A Brief History Of Beauty Contests, Xerox on cotton, free motion machine embroidery, appliqué, embellishment “Anna Thomford has been a costume designer for over thirty years. She also makes quilts, dolls, wearables and the occasional social commentary piece, one of which is A Brief History Of Beauty Contests, inspired by the death of Jon Benet Ramsey [child pageant star] in Dec. 1996.” “I work with cloth as a costume designer and artist. Costume is a collaborative art in which the designer works to convey the vision of the director, but I have my own visions and in my own time I work on them. I was unaware of child beauty pageants until the death of Jon Benet Ramsey. I found it shocking, and I found the whole history of beauty contests interesting, curious, and sexist. I responded with this child size pageant cape. Fake fur, ragged sequins, Xerox and all.”
