“….”
She knew it was rude of her to stare. Aunty had berated her for the fact time and again, though the lesson never seemed to sink in properly. Her eyes traced over the scars on the woman’s face, fascinated by them. Vaguely she hoped that she wouldn’t be noticed, or at least that the stranger wouldn’t be upset by it.
Iv noticed that someone was looking at her. It was called the sixth sense, when you literally physically feel the other person’s eyes. As if an invisible hand was wandering on you. - What? - Iv asked curiously, tilting her head slightly. Curly wavered on her head, as she bent her head.
Oh no. She'd been spotted. Quickly she ducked her head, though she didn't take her eyes from the other woman. It wasn't often that she didn't get chewed out the moment she was caught in the midst of wrongdoing. With her pointer finger, she traced over her cheek, as if to ask the stranger how she'd gotten her scars.
Oh jeez I totally forgot about this tiny doof I painted like a month ago. kukkiisart baby brother!

They’d found her in the desert, clinging to life as fiercely as she clung to her instrument. The fight she’d given was laughable, and it took the party that found her no effort to haul her into their vehicle. She was easily worth at least ten gallons of water, she remembered them saying. An easy hunt and even easier catch.
When she next woke, half-delirious, she was lying down, one hand raised weakly to block the light shining into her eyes. No bumps or lumps or scars, she heard as she began to regain consciousness. Her vision slowly adjusted to her surroundings, dark and dank apart from the little examination lamp overhead.
Where was she? Wherever it was, she mused to herself, it was definitely somewhere Aunty would have wanted her to steer clear of.

The sand choked her, clogged her nose and her mouth as if it was trying to squeeze the air from her lungs.Though the storm had ended, the damage it had wrought on her was still very much present. Coughing to clear her airway, Melody forced herself up on her elbows, body aching from the beating the storm had put her through. She gripped her pack with one hand, dragging herself forward in the sand with the other.
Leaving Barter Town in the midst of a sandstorm hadn’t been a smart move on her part.

I’ve added a new playlist on Melody’s blog if anyone wants an idea of what I listen to whilst writing her. In the meantime, however...
STARTER CALL!
Tina Turner as Auntie Entity in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome 1985
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)
Immortan could feel his body weighing heavier on his right side as tired arctic hues remain on the girl who was currently being inspected by his medic. As he continued to prod and poke a thick brow lifted in curiosity, noting how she did not make any verbal protest or even a noise for the matter. It didn’t take him long to put two and two together: she was a mute. In these desecrated lands disabilities were the majority and so he was not surprised she did not speak. In fact he had several women given to him who lacked the ability of speech. It was a rather nice feature: they couldn’t scream and they couldn’t voice the word he heard all too often: NO. Yes, it was a small blessing.
— “She’s a mute…,” his metallic-clad voice was low and precise as he takes a step closer to the girl. She had some fight in her and when his mortal body was younger he found the ones who struggled to be a bit more fun but with the sands of time piling atop him the Warlord just did not have the energy to wrestle with wives or concubines. Now directly in front of her he brings a heavy hand and snatches her face between thick fingers to prevent her from moving. If she dare hit him with that musical instrument he would be certain she would regret it.
— “Are you going to fight or are you going to be civil with your Savior?”
Still her heart pounded once she was free from the clutches of the medic, rubbing at her arm as if that would rid her of the sickening sensation his touch inspired. She nearly regretted not striking him hard enough to snap his neck and rid the world of yet another wretched human being. But the thought quickly slipped her mind as the other man approached her, a sharp wince marring her expression as he gripped her face. For a moment, she was reminded of Aunty and how she’d been punished for lashing out before.
Those punishments seemed like a reprieve now.
Melody froze in the grip of the masked man, listening to the rasp of a respirator to force herself not to panic. Slowly, oh so slowly, she relaxed her body, eyes closed for a brief moment as she nodded to the man. Whatever they had planned for her, it would be beneficial for her to stop fighting. At least, that was what she hoped.
Her gaze quickly left the woman when she was acknowledged, focused once again on her instrument. She was unable to reply to her, no matter how strongly she wanted to. Instead she began to play, a soft and light tune that contrasted starkly to the world they inhabited.
It wasn’t often that the Imperator stumbled upon musicians, but Auntie always seemed to have a steady supply of them. Like she had some sort of sense for them. Either way, she needed to carry on her business with Auntie, even if she did want to remain and listen a while longer.
Fortunately for Furiosa, there was a slew of problems Aunty was trying to resolve on her own, leaving her guest waiting longer than intended. Yet still Melody played as if no one else in the world could hear her. Strings sang as her bow was drawn across them, the faintest of smiles at her lips while she played for the strange woman.
Her ears had perked up at the sound of strings, different from the ones that Capable played for her. These were lighter, more fluid, and her eyes were quickly met with the source. Furiosa tilted her head at the younger woman. “No need to stop.”
Her gaze quickly left the woman when she was acknowledged, focused once again on her instrument. She was unable to reply to her, no matter how strongly she wanted to. Instead she began to play, a soft and light tune that contrasted starkly to the world they inhabited.
STARTER CALL
Thinking of adding a playlist for Melody. Yes or no?
STARTER CALL
A heavy sigh fell from his mask as he was interrupted by his medical tech, assistant, doctor — who knew what he was actually truly capable but he certainly wouldn’t have been hired by any hospital back when days were good and normal. ‘We got ‘nother one, Joe.’ The words caused the Warlord’s ears to perk, knowing already what he was talking about.
— “Better be well worth my time,” his voice is low and threatening. He did not like to be interrupted no matter what the activity he was doing. He especially did not like to be bother when the sun had set. The days were long and wearing on the decaying Savior; his mortal body could not handle what the days brought as well as it used to. There were nights he held little energy and it was hard enough to give one wife the attention she deserved let alone all five.
Loud and uneven thuds could be heard as the Immortan made his way to where she would be; both Rictus and a Black Thumb assisting him. Once in the room he waited until the girl was shoved in front of him, holding what appeared to be a violin in her hand. How odd she held onto that instead of grabbing a weapon for self defense.
Arctic hues narrowed as they scanned her form, finding it a bit difficult to accurately assess her as the years of radiation poisoning perpetually scrapped at his fragile flesh beneath the armor of plastic. Once again he did not like having to do business at this hour.
— “Go on. Inspect her.” He growled to the Organic Mechanic; a deep breath needed to control his agitation.
Nothing she had seen in Bartertown could have prepared her for the sight of the man she was presented to. He resembled a corpse more than a living, breathing human being. The appearance of him caused her to stiffen, though she stood her ground. There was nowhere for her to run now. Trying to would be a waste on her part. Even pretending to be brave would do her good now.
When the raggedy man came forward, their medic, she assumed, Melody scowled as he began to poke and prod her, with no concern for her comfort. Her shirt was lifted and her torso examined, the man giving a nod at her unblemished skin. He continued unhurried, taking his time to grope and pinch what he pleased, leaving Melody more and more agitated with every touch of his disgusting hands.
But as his examination strayed further down her torso, she snapped. The neck of her violin struck the man across his face hard, leaving him reeling as she retreated from him. Her clothes were rearranged as quickly as she could, though she never took her eyes away from the other men.
The Organic Mechanic picked himself up from the floor, though he wisely kept a distance from the woman. “Healthy as a horse, boss. Got a kick like one too, I reckon.”
