I think so many people misinterpret the movie Jennifers Body (2009) so much, simultaneously different interpretations can be found. MY interpretation of this movie is that sexual assault can change a person so much, and their morales. In the beginning of the movie you can see how Jennifer treats needy with so much love and affection, thats her girl, her best friend, and she wants the best for her, despite what her other classmates might think. Their mindset is “Why would Jennifer be friends with needy, when she so much more beautiful than her” Which is an horrible mindset in itself but let’s not get into that.
She takes Needy to the party to get her to have some fun, and already has her eye on the singer of the band at the party. The band talks about how they bet shes a virgin by how beautiful she is and how she wouldn’t let anyone take her virginity easily. Needy overhears it and tells them off, and lets Jennifer know, shes already going for him and jokingly shrugs it off. I believe when the band was playing they put a hex on her and thats when she starting acting differently. The band needing a virgin in order to sacrifice them for more exposure as a band, was a euphemism for sexual assault. The fact of the matter is that Jennifer was not a virgin, therefore the making her insusceptible to the ritual and becoming a succubus.
After the ritual, you can see Jennifers quick personality adjustment, seeming to have no sympathy for the lives lost in the fire at melody lane. Her assault pushed to murder men of the town with her built resentment. Jennifer only gets more beautiful with the more men she kills pushing the ideology, that resentment built overtime can become dangerous without help, but it may not always show on the surface. Jennifer always find her way back to Needy, even while being in her succubus form.
Needy is the one person who saw her more than her body hence the name “Jennifer’s body”. Nearing the end of the movie, when Needy Yanked their matching BFF necklace off her neck, that alone made Jennifer weak before Needy pierced her heart. The fact of the matter is they were connected by a genuine bond which makes their breakup so heartbreaking. Jennifers assault broke their relationship and jennifers identity altogether.
