using microsoft word (online, at least) feels like it was designed to maximize misery.

You want to move this image? What image? There's nothing there. Oh, there it is. Yeah you can't move it LOL. You would like the work text to look identical to the read-only viewable text? Why would that be a thing? Oh, would you like to edit the colour of image slightly? Too bad. You can cut it or put a border around it. Those are your two options. You want a nice cursive text? Well we have two font options that support your language's special letters, both too illegible for text you want people to actually be able to read. No you cannot download anything better.
