🏎️ - best rivals. (kimi antonelli)
part 5 | masterlist (i’m tired of linking each part i’m sorry 💔)
pairing: kimi antonelli x driver!reader
genre: angst, fluff, secret relationship, rivals to lovers
warnings: heavy kissing, implied freakiness, swearing
synopsis: being an 18-year-old F1 rookie already comes with many pressures, nonetheless being the little sister of Charles Leclerc, one of the most notorious drivers in formula 1 history. Not to mention, you're moving up along with your rival since your karting days, Kimi Antonelli. Over time, your rivalry with him has become more- still a rivalry, just a few benefits, and complicated feelings included.
(a/n: i really hope someone gets the closet reference because i literally am obsessed w sterling point rn)
You narrowly avoid crashing into the barrier, jerking the steering wheel to even your car out as you skid through the run-off area.
You sigh in frustration as your car comes to a stop mere inches from the barrier.
“Fuck,” you grunt, the word echoing from the loudspeakers for all to hear.
Immediately, Kimi is in your ear and you see his car slowing to avoid Sainz.
“Are you hurt?” His tone is urgent, but he keeps his focus on the road.
You cross your arms, watching a few crew members jogging towards you.
“No, but I’m fucking pissed.”
You hear your engineer’s voice coming onto the radio, sounding mildly irritated.
“It’s okay. That was not your fault. Carlos did not bother to check his mirrors, I’m guessing.”
You roll your eyes, voice a little thicker.
You hear a sad laugh from the radio before it’s drowned out by the commentators over the loudspeakers, now infinitely louder without the sound of your engine humming around you.
“Y/N Leclerc has been ran off the track, but not by her rival! By Carlos Sainz. Does this guy not check his mirrors?”
You sigh, stepping out of the cockpit.
A crew member rushes up, offering you a towel.
“Head back to your garage, we’ll get your car moved.”
The crowd cheers sympathetically as you practically stomp back to the Ferrari garage.
When you finally reach the entrance, you pull off your helmet and balaclava, locking eyes with your engineer, Carlo.
“I can’t let you do that, but he should get a penalty for that.”
You slump into a nearby chair, pinching your forehead.
“I mean, what the hell? How did he not see me? I kept my distance, too. He went into me.”
He squeezes your shoulder sympathetically.
“Right. You’re right. It’ll be okay, it’s only one DNF. You’re still championship leader.”
“Kimi’s winning this race. We’ll be separated by literally a single point.”
“I know. The move on pulled on him was brave today. Almost gave me a heart attack.”
You laugh, but there’s no humor in it.
“And it was all for nothing.”
You silently watch the podium ceremony from the screen in the garage, watching Kimi spray both McLaren drivers with a grin on his face.
Even though you didn’t finish, you’re still subjected to the absolute hell of the media pen.
You answer the questions professionally, but you can’t help the edge in your tone.
“How will this DNF affect your championship status?”
“My lead is gone. I’ll build it back.”
“Despite the unfortunate ending, how do you feel about the intense battle with Kimi?”
“It was a reckless thing to do, driving so closely like that, but that’s our thing. Makes it interesting.”
“Do you have any words about your collision with Carlos?”
“He rammed into me, and cost me the race. Congratulations to him and his last place trophy, I guess.”
You bury your head in your hands in the darkness of the closet, trying to keep quiet.
You shouldn’t even be sad, the disqualification wasn’t even your fault, but you still feel disappointed in yourself. You drove your heart out, avoiding an almost 100 percent likely collision with Kimi, just to get taken out by Carlos fucking Sainz.
A small sob escapes your lips, your vision becoming blurry with the tears you’ve been holding in for the last hour.
You put hand over your mouth to stifle the cries, watching the shadows of feet walking past the door.
Suddenly, the doorknob turns, and you immediately quiet yourself.
The door opens slowly, and a head peeks inside.
“I’ve been looking for you.”
His tone is soft, but not pitying.
You silently watch as he sits on the floor across from you, the two of you cramped together in the small area.
Kimi sighs, leaning his head back against the wall.
You finally speak, your voice quiet and thick with emotion.
“So why are you beating yourself up over it?”
You let out a tense breath, covering your eyes with your hands.
When you look back up, he’s watching you with a thoughtful expression.
He keeps his eyes locked on yours for a moment before he leans forward, hooking one hand on the underside of your knee, the other around your back, dragging you towards him.
You let him pull you, unable to say anything.
He watches you with a strange expression before tentatively wrapping his arms around your shoulders, his face in your neck.
You take a deep breath, slowly melting into him.
You’ve been in his arms multiple times in the past few months, but this feels different. Less desperate touching, more soft and feeling.
You stay like that for a moment before he pulls away slightly, bringing your his face to yours.
He stares into your eyes, a silent question.
Only then do his eyes stray to your lips.
You tilt your chin up slightly, waiting.
His hand moves to gently hold your cheek, brushing the dried tears away, slowly closing the distance.
Despite everything, this is the most intimate moment of this…rivalry. You’re not sure what to call it anymore.
He gently captures your bottom lip between his, his nose brushing against yours.
You wrap your arms around his neck, your fingers tangling in the curls at the base of his head.
He releases your lip, kissing you more deeply, when your phone buzzes behind you.
He sighs into your mouth, pulling away just enough to separate your lips.
You blindly reach behind you, grabbing the phone off the floor without moving away.
You read the message to yourself before whispering into the dark.
“Lando’s inviting me to the club. Along with everyone else on the grid.”
When Kimi speaks, his breath is warm against your face.
“You should go. Forget about what happened today.”
He stays silent for a moment before nodding.

ynfanpage the crash was literally not her fault??!
user7 i’m so heartbroken actually
user6 guys it’s literally Carlos’ fault? Did you not see her fight with Kimi RIGHT before where she literally passed him without a scrape. She is more than capable.
You swipe out of Instagram, tears threatening to spill for the second time this evening.
You readjust your small, black minidress, the tight fabric exposing your every curve.
The driver pulls up to the club, and you realize you’re one of the last drivers to arrive.
You thank him, pausing at the entrance.
Taking a deep breath, you pass the photographers lingering outside the entrance, keeping your chin high.
Once you come through the door, you glance around, taking in your surroundings.
The club is a vast open area, a bar to the left, a dj booth in the back. The club is packed with familiar faces from the paddock, drivers girlfriends, interns, engineers, everyone you can think of.
At the bar, a figure stands at the edge with Lando and Oscar, looking mildly uninterested.
Immediately, he turns and his gaze locks on you, moving down your body.
He pulls his bottom lip into his mouth, tearing his gaze away as you approach.
Spotting you, Lando shrugs off Oscar’s arm to wrap you in a hug.
“Oh, love. Are you okay?”
You hug him back, snorting at the nickname.
He steps back, Oscar’s arm coming around his shoulders once again.
“Have fun tonight. Don’t even worry about it,” he says.
You look between him and Oscar, smirking.
He puts his hand to his chest dramatically.
“As if I’d ever have a child as reckless as you,” he points to Kimi before continuing.
“You tried to run him off the road earlier.”
You snort, looking over at Kimi, who’s just staring intently at your dress.
You ignore the rushing to your cheeks under his gaze, laughing it off.
“I was simply doing an overtake.”
This time, Oscar chimes in, both the McLaren drivers oblivious to Kimi.
“You were practically on top of him.”
Finally, Kimi meets your eyes, looking dazed and flushed.
“I’m gonna, uh…I’ll be back,” he says, gaze flicking over you once more before he disappears into the crowd.
You grin at Lando, who’s calling the bartender over for shots, determined to make the most of the night.
