It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written something so I really hope this is enjoyable. Sorry for the shit format, I’m on my mobile. Always wanted to write something angsty for Cater but it’s very mild so don’t worry :) this prompt was found online and it suits him so much

Cater would always keep everyone at arms length. There was never any need to dig beyond the shallow Magicam obsessed man, but it was never enough for you was it.

Hangouts with consisted of him goofing off with you, filming magicam trends with you, to you admitting the torn feeling of missing home and wanting to stay in Wonderland permanently, Cater was present for all of them. You let so much of yourself out to him and he’d soak it up.

But he’d never slip up and confide anything in you back. You lay thinking about how much Cater knew about you and how little you knew about him. The exchange felt so unfair, here you were baring your secrets out to him in the open without him reciprocating. For the next few months you tried to coax him out of his mask, but no matter how much you dug the same face would pop up. The same Cater that would perform everyday, repeating so well that it had you wondering if there was simply nothing more to him. Trust was the foundation of a friendship and it was clear Cater had none for you. After so much pushing, insecurity started to trickle in and so you pulled back fast. Guilt was only thing that followed, as if Cater had you in a tight grip, you couldn’t bear to close yourself off in case it hurt him.

You’re sudden change in attitude began to bother Cater as well. On some days you were fine, chatty and he felt like he knows you inside out, but on other times it felt as if a wall has been constructed to block him off. This hot and cold situation was starting to irk him, you kept trying to push him to reveal things he never dwelled on deeply himself. Couldn’t you be satisfied with how you knew him ? Must he be something more and let you in deep when he was so uncomfortable doing so. An altercation was soon to follow, leading you both to blow up at each other. You had enough, perhaps it would be best if you stopped indulging him in all your personal feelings and thoughts, they were clearly just gossip and entertainment for him, or that’s what you thought.

“You’re my best friend. I just wish I were yours.” you admitted before getting up to leave, you were done and were going to shut yourself in now, if Cater wanted to fix this then he’d just have chase after you and try to mend things. For now you were done pulling the weight of this one sided relationship.
