HIMYM THEORIES/RULES
As a fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’ve taken note of most of their theories and rules.
NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS AFTER 2AM “After 2AM, just sleep—decisions made then are usually bad.” My take: I relate. I used to get overly emotional late at night—oversharing, drinking, even picking fights.
THE MERMAID THEORY Someone you’re not attracted to can become attractive over time. My take: Makes sense—closeness builds feelings, but it can also mean weak boundaries.
HOT/CRAZY SCALE The “crazier” someone is, the more “hotness” people expect to balance it. My take: Not a fan—being “crazy” is something to work on, not justify.
THE PLATINUM RULE Don’t date people you see daily (coworkers, classmates, roommates). My take: I follow this—moving on is harder when you still see them.
THE LOBSTER SITUATION You want something more because you can’t have it—but it’s often disappointing once you do. My take: Very real—people tend to chase what’s forbidden or unavailable. I think it's somehow related to the scarcity effect (rare = more valuable), and dopamine-driven anticipation—we get more excitement from wanting than actually having.
THE DOBLER–DAHMER THEORY Romantic gestures are sweet if mutual ("Dobler"), creepy if not ("Dahmer"). My take: Mutual feelings matter before making a move.
THE HOOK THEORY One person keeps you for attention ("Hooker"); the other hopes it becomes real ("Hooked"). My take: I’ve been both—don’t use people for validation or wait on “maybe.”
What about you guys—what are your thoughts on these? Which ones do you relate to the most?
