as a trans person, seeing people wearing harry potter merch has turned into a fight or flight kind of situation. I become immediately distrustful and feel unsafe around that person. And yes I'm aware there's a hundred different reasons why someone could still be into harry potter and comfortable in expressing that- including not knowing the situation, but all that means is it's become a dog whistle.

it makes trans people feel unsafe while being deniable enough that others' roll their eyes and say we're overreacting. meanwhile it signals to TERFS and their sympathizers that they may have support for their beliefs here.

so let me repeat that: visible and/or vocal support of the harrry potter franchise has become a dog whistle. remove it from your life or rot with the terfs
