fix it? (Lauretta and emmet)

Lauretta had been watching for at least ten minutes as this guy tried to fix something he had broken, she had already put so many of those together in her dad’s shop that she thought she could do it in her sleep. Even watching him now she could see exactly how to fix it and it would have taken all of a minute for her. 

Lauretta tried not to laugh as she watched him fumble with it for the fiftieth time before she stood up and walked over to him taking it from him with her good hand as her other turned into the tool she needed  “you dislocated the mechanism,” she told him as she fiddled with it for a few moments, swapping to another tool before she gave it a good twist and handed it back to him “Try it now.”

Lauretta glanced over at the guy searching for the wallet before she looked over at the guy patting himself down and shook her head a bit looking up at her again.

“How much did you find?” Lauretta asked her keeping an eye on the man searching for the wallet to be sure they wouldn’t figure it out before the girls got away. Lauretta motioned for her to walk with her so they could move before the guy caught on. Lauretta reached over and slipped one of the bills from the wallet tucking it in her jacket pocket

“that’s for my silence,” she said before adding in softer tones “take the valuable stuff and give the wallet back, it draws away suspicion”

freddie quickly counted the bills, “ehh…wow. about $250. why do these prissy kids need to walk around with this much on them?” she followed at watched as the other took one of the 50s from her hand. she rolled her eyes at the suggestion, “do you really think this is my first time stealing? I know what I’m doing.” she looked through the wallet finding nothing else to her interest. she usually didn’t share her loot but seeing as the other already took some of it she held the leather square between two fingers, “you wanna look through it before I take it back?”

Lauretta shrugged a little  “Not really, if i find family photos in there i might just give it back.” Lauretta said to her shaking her head a bit “What you should do is go return it to them and say you found it on the ground that way they think you’re trying to help and wouldn’t suspect you as the thief.” she added motioning back to where the person was it was a trick she used many times and three out of four times people didn’t suspect her until she was gone and they didn’t have a way of getting to her

Lauretta looked up, she wasn’t really one for company but she figured who could say no tot he king? “No, go for it.” she said looking back at the book she had on the table on mechanics, she was trying to figure out how to rebuild a boat engine that her dad had found, he wanted to use it for parts but she was almost positive she could fix it up.

“Thank you so much.”  Ben smiled, removing his jacket and draping it over the back of the chair before taking a seat.  Not necessarily sure what to say next, his eyes trailed to the book on the table and he raised an eyebrow.  “What are you reading?  If you don’t mind my asking.”

Lauretta glanced up at him again trying to tell if he was actually interested or just being polite before she looked back down “a book on engines, my dad owns a repair shop and just got one in. thinks we can use it for parts but I think it has the potential to be saved.” Lauretta explained to him turning the page and then grabbing a pen from her bag and scribbling a note to herself on her good arm to check a certain page, it really was the only way she’d remember anything she wrote notes to herself all the time.

“okay, here’s the deal…” Freddie holds up her hands innocently, one holding a clearly stolen wallet, “it was just sitting there. it was practically begging me to take it,”  it was rare she was caught, but today seemed to be her unlucky day. she looked back at the victim, now patting themselves down trying to find their lost stolen item. Freddie turned back to the person, completely ignoring what she just saw, “i don’t see what the problem is anyways – they haven’t noticed it’s gone. that means it won’t be missed, and i will be able to enjoy it.” she finished as she flipped through the bills inside.

Lauretta smiled seeing the other pirate come in and shifted her hands in her jacket pockets  “And just what have we been up to since joining Auradon?” Lauretta asked her curiously as she quirked an eyebrow at her and began walking along beside her  “Haven’t heard a peep out of...well anything your family is doing really.”

As many people as Ben knew, he had to admit that he didn’t know many of the new vk’s that came over, or even some of the Auradonians, as horrible as that sounded.  So, when he walked into a coffee shop and spotted a free seat, he made his way over.  “Excuse me?”  He spoke, a polite tone in his voice.  “Is this seat taken?”

Lauretta was on duty at the shop, tinkering with various things trying to get them to work again was basically her hobby as it was but she wished her brothers would pay more attention to the place so it wasn’t always her and dad.

actually today it was just her because Silver had to run some errands which was fine it just meant Lauretta could try to make a few....adjustments to her arm.  Lauretta stood with a screwdriver in hand trying to fix one of the mechanisms that would flip out one of her culinary knives (She was her dad’s kid alright?) when she heard the bell go off and cursed slamming the screwdriver down 

“Just a sec!” she called to the counter she hated going up with out the prosthetic, she pulled a sweatshirt on and tucked the empty arm into the pocket so they may not notice before she approached the counter 

“Hey sorry about that, what can i do for you?”

Lauretta’s dad owned a repair shop on the isle fixing things for people that they could or buying/trading the parts to make it into something else. Lauretta had a good knack for this, she was always taking things apart and trying to figure out how they worked. Lauretta counts herself lucky, of all the ‘villains’ on the isle, she and her brothers actually have a good relationship with their dad. When she was young he would wake them up late at night on the rare occasions it was clear outside on the isle and he’d take them and an old telescope he’d rebuilt and make them stargaze with him, telling them all sorts of tales of when he was a pirate in the galaxy.

Lauretta has always dreamed of doing the same. 

When the Barrier came down, John was hesitant thinking it was too good to be true and kept the kids on the isle, until Lauretta got in a fight with one of the other kids that cost her much more than her allowance, it took her arm from the elbow down. John helped her build one to replace it like his and decided that day that they’d move to Auradon for the kids sake. Now they all run the repair shop together. Lauretta and her brothers have been scheming for a while though, they’re trying to save up enough money to be able to buy their father a boat. Nothing big or fancy just maybe something to tempt that old pirate blood of his into letting them sail off into the sunset and start again.
