when your rabbit trusts you 🥰 🐰🥰
(please add on!! I need to see more happy buns rn!!!)
Did a photoshoot of one of my does on the red couch because I think it looks good with their fur. She should be pregnant at this time which I am very excited about! Lots of little silver fox babies I can't wait. I should really tattoo their ears before they give birth lol.
More bunny pics I hear?!
Do you have any advice for getting into keeping rabbits? I was looking into getting a couple for meat production and possibly starting to learn to tan pelts but I don’t want to get confused over all the conflicting info on the internet about wire flooring and such things.
ugh, it’s so frustrating, isn’t it? with pretty much every other animal you can just google “how to raise x” and get tons of good advice, but the rabbit results are dominated by HRS forums that will crucify you for even mentioning breeding, much less meat production.
so here’s some points i’ve learned from experience to help you out:

How to Build PVC Cage Racks
Finally! A proper instructional on how to build these super simple and surprisingly stable racks for stacking rabbit cages! The pattern for these was given to me by James at Barking Hen Farm, but it’s not anything patented, just really simple and set up in such a way that you have very little waste when you’re done.
These racks hold two cages, one on top, on on bottom, with one slanted waste collection tray in between them. You could probably put another waste tray on the bottom, but because I have my cages outside, I don’t mind the poop from my bottom cages falling on the ground.
Anyway, onto the supplies list and photos!

Rabbit Care Things
I think it's kinda dumb how many vet blogs on here who've never took care of a rabbit in their life reblog a post that has something in it about how horrible it is to flip your rabbits over or keep them on wire cages but none of that's true.
I also think it's important to talk about how it's a lot different for someone who just has a rabbit as a house pet and someone who has rabbits to breed for show/meat/fur. With someone who just has a house rabbit there is no reason for them to have a wire bottom cage for their rabbits if they're just going to be running around a space in their house and are spayed/neutered and litter trained. I actually think it would be a dumb idea to waste their money on a wire bottom cage because there's just no purpose for it.
I'm not sure about flipping over rabbits, though. I guess you can easily get away with never flipping your rabbit over when you have a small pet rabbit with short fur that doesn't need intense brushing all over. You could probably also spend more time trying to cut it's nails without flipping it over when you just have one or two rabbits but that doesn't work for someone with rabbits that aren't just pets. Flipping your rabbit over is perfectly safe and an important thing to do to examine your rabbit and sex them and cut their nails.
I think it's super misleading for vets to be posting things saying they're bad without a second thought and then everyone eating it up because their favorite vet bloggers can never be wrong or mislead by something themselves. I'm not saying they're bad people because they really just probably don't know but I just want people to know that there's more than one way to keep a rabbit for sure and there is a lot of misleading info out there.
Always do your research. That's not just looking things up on the internet, though. If you want to breed rabbits, talk to someone who does so already. If you want a pet house rabbit, talk to someone who has one.
