I read something about Viserys II manipulating Naerys to cling to the faith from a young age so that she wouldn't follow in Larra's footsteps and would choose freedom. That hurt me in a way—if Viserys preferred to keep Naerys vulnerable and never defended her from Aegon's accusations, betrayals, and possibly even abuse, perhaps Viserys was projecting, in a morbid way, that he could have controlled Larra.

Visenya was unhappy with Rhaena's birth because it strengthened Aenys's position as heir at the expense of Maegor. Suddenly, Aegon placed the tiny newborn in Visenya's arms, and when the Princess opened her eyes, Visenya was pulled into memories of the past when she was a little girl and her mother held Rhaenys in her arms for the first time.

Her great-niece was the living image of the beloved sister Visenya had lost.

Visenya hated Rhaena because if she loved her, she knew she would lose her as she had lost Rhaenys.

She returned the baby abruptly and hurriedly left the chambers, only to allow herself to cry alone.

Headcanon

While visiting his mother's family in Dorne during his youth, Maekar met Lady Dyanna Dayne in the Water Gardens and fell in love with her. He followed her like a shadow and hid when she noticed he was spying on her. During a banquet, it was clear he wanted to ask her to dance, so Baelor asked her on his behalf, and Maekar and Dyanna danced together all night.

What if…

What if it was Maekar who had fallen unconscious during the Trial of the Seven instead of Dunk? Maekar would have memories of Dyanna and them with their babies. Therefore, when he woke up, he would rush to Aerion's aid, shouting, "My boy. My boy." Because no matter how bad he was, that was still his and Dyanna's boy.

I like to imagine that after they arrived in heaven and Aegon ran to hug Dyanna, she went to Dunk, hugged him and said, "Thank you for taking care of him."
