I’m genuinely wondering how people are possibly coming away from Oppenheimer thinking it’s prowar/pro atom bomb. Like I have to imagine they just slept through the movie and typed up some bullshit just to get clicks. It’s so blatantly anti facist and HEAAAAVILY critical of the creation of the atom bomb and the US’s choice to bomb Japan 🤡 Absolutely wild.

sorry but i hate the saying “your feelings are always valid” because that’s not always true TBH. like sometimes your feelings aren’t justified or are just plain idiotic but that’s part of being alive. if we tell ourselves that we’re valid 100% of the time that just gives us god complexes and less tolerant of others because we’re always telling ourselves we’re right.

Feminists pushed for women to be able to work because being totally financially dependent on and beholden to One Singular Man was extremely dangerous and quite literally killing women.
Capitalism gets worse but being able have and keep your own money is ideal over being totally financially dependent on One Man.
People who are anti capitalist (in a general sense of the term) rightfully say that the conditions under which we work totally suck (and should change).
Misogynists see that the working conditions are awful (and they see other things happening), but rather than using that fact to push for improvements in the work place for women and people of other gender minorities, they launch back to deeply sexist and dangerous rhetoric that, beyond glorifying a past for women that never existed, doesn't even understand the basics of child and home care that SAHMs have to go through.
So now we have women who thoroughly believe that a) working sucks (theyre right in some ways) and b) the "solution" to this is for women to be SAHMs or housewives because "all you have to do" is cook and clean. They glorify the man having to go out and make all the money--money which they presume will be handed over to them if they so much as ask. Money that they don't have real access to, money that they believe will be their compensation for fulfilling an archaic gender roles successfully. Meaning if they don't perform to the man's standards, they lose the money.
All day. Every day. It's very clear that the women who say this often do not, themselves, have to do all the cooking and cleaning for other people, and the fact that they think this is simple and easy work shows they devalue the real labor that goes into being a SAHM/housewife. I've done cooking and cleaning for a household of five people and I will tell you it's awful.
But these traditionalists and hypergamists and whatever else they wanna call themselves are leading people into believing that ultimately, it's men that should be in control of everything. Women not having to work is somehow a good thing.

Maybe random but it reminds me one of reasons why socialists think capitalism sucks because only people join the system can be considered worthy of reward/living. In this case, men join the capitalist system(get a job or whatever) so they receive reward from it (money). Meanwhile housewives also spent time at home making great efforts but the society doesn’t acknowledge the work and no one can legally demand payment/insurance/retirement plan/paid vacation for their housework. Housewives are also considered less glorious than working women because they are not part of the capitalism system and the whole value of modern society was built on it. The issue is not they don’t work. The issue is they work but the society refuse to admit so.
(Of course there are housewives barely do anything at home but there are also people sitting in the office doing nothing as long as they get the magical word Job or Business they are good to go)
Sooooo... Andi was trying to claim half of their co-founded company based on some initial ideas she came up with years ago? At least in The Social Network Andrew Garfield sued for his start-up investment part. What Andi contributed in the movie doesn’t even worth to be paid with performance shares. I have no idea why she and her sister felt so entitled. And yes while she (or Helen) was wearing those “Valentino flats” I found it’s very hard to sympathize. They were rich people too, along with all the other rich people in this movie. I found them equally annoying and spoiled.
Not trying to justify Mile’s killing. He’s stupid enough to dig his own grave. The court was stupid enough to actually take that piece of napkin into consideration. The script was great but this whole motivation part was stupid as f.
The reason I didn’t find white saviour problem in Avatar 2 was because the hero Jack was basically a useless piece of shit in the entire movie.
Like, if the villain was the soldiers only here for hunting him down like they claimed, he choose to bring danger to other villages in order to save his own, which was just…….. cowardly and selfish.
If the villain, in a bigger picture, was the colonization. Then apparently he…… didn’t do nothing to stop it.
All the important battles were fought by the locals, the whale and his other family members (I don’t remember the whale’s accurate name) In order to show Jack can still do something they had to let all the local villagers mysteriously disappeared from the scene for 30 minutes , so the hero was able to…… choke the villain while they were both holding breath under water.
That basic white dude didn’t bring anything to the story. Without him there’s no battles brought to the ocean villages. Or, without him, these islanders and forest ones can fight human just fine. His only advance, skill of firepower, was so average compared to those arrows, at least that’s how it looked like….. Many times I asked myself why he needed to be there but many times I asked why the whole story made sense anyway.
I think saying Avatar 2 (only 2, never seen the first one) had a white savior is highly disrespectful to other characters. Even his half-white children were just solving all the problems they caused themselves or depending on other locals to save them. Centralizing Jack there, even for a negative reason, implied someone’s internalized racism which automatically assumed that white human must play an essential part if he was in such kind of stories. Although in fact, everyone will be happier without him.
My personal understanding of Daemon’s choking was that he found out Rhaenyra was truly her father’s daughter but not the Queen he expected for many years. Daemon always hated the weakness within Viserys and his passive-aggressive reaction for every conflict in his kingdom. He loved and supported Rhaenyra because he thought she would be more like him. He thought they shared a common nature as fighters and warriors who were willing to take control at all costs. So when Rhaenyra used the similar reasons like peace/united as Viserys always did to justify their non-action, it hit Daemon hard. He realized the Queen he crowned won't be his long-expecting ally and he just lost it. Basically what he did to Rhaenyra was what he always wanted to do to Viserys.
Not saying he’s doing anything right. Just my thoughts.
There were several times that behind the scenes interviews partially ruined the characters I felt during the episode. The newest S1E9 was a perfect example.
When Rhaenys paused, hesitated, and eventually decided to spare team green’s lives, I thought she was making a very thoughtful political decision. As the whole King’s Landing witnessed she emerged with the dragon killing (accidentally) hundreds of common people, if Rhaenys proceeds to murder the current King and his family in frond of everyone, her name and reputation would be severely damaged. Even though basically all of the characters were acting crazy in this ugly fight but they did care about their public images and legitimacy of their power. THIS was my understanding of Rhaenys’ consideration.
BTS: oh she felt sorry for Alicent so as a mother to another mother Rhaenys went soft and gave up the only chance to stop all the wars at once.
I mean, this explanation devalued Rhaenys’ character so much. She made such a crucial decision based on her being a mother instead of being a Lady or politician. And the decision suddenly made her looked......stupid. Can a female character acted independently from their traditional roles? Can their mind and heart overcame the "mother instinct"? Can real logic and planning, instead of emotional reaction, lead their action?
How can you write a cool character but the moment you started to explain it she turned lame.
It’s weird that I was never Team Green but now I’m not Team Rhaenyra either.
When Alicent acted all paranoid and crazy against Rhaenyra I thought she was annoying as f because Rhaenyra seemed to be very peaceful and kind to her bitterness.
Now, she’s not peaceful. She’s weak.
When Daemon decided there’s safety issues inside the town, he gathered gold cloaks to chopped dicks off. When he wanted to prove himself worthy he sailed to Stepstones and won himself a crown. When Lucerys legitimacy was challenged, he beheaded Vaemond right on site.
Daemon saw a problem. Daemon got shits done.
As for Rhaenyra, she knew her unpopularity as an heir in the kingdom. She knew Alicent decided to make her an enemy. Criston low key bullied her kids during the training. The legitimacy of them were forever a problem. Her ally and lover Strong was murdered.
She has done nothing to protect her position. She didn’t investigate Strong’s death. She didn’t take revenge. After years of meaningless waiting/delaying, her ultimate solution was ..... Her Dad.
Of course one can argue gender has restrained Rhaenyra‘s ability. But look at Alicent, she managed to get Criston and Larys as her allies. She can constantly interrupt Rhaenyra at the council, devaluing her opinions. She successfully removed Strong family. She used rumors and whispers which eventually made Rhaenyra leave King's Landing. Alicent has done all these without a single Hightower by her side.
If a character’s whole fundamental reason behind her claim of power was simply “because my dad said so!” It’s really hard for me to develop sympathy for her.
This so-called girlboss relied everything on her father then her husband. Damn, even Mysaria was more independent than her as she literally dumped Daemon and built up her own spy business.
I said this before and I'm gonna say it again: Rhaenyra hasn't showed any potential to be a great Queen so far.
Between S1E5 and S1E6, she spent 10 years at King’s Landing by the side of Viserys but gained no political power or strong ally. She was talked down in the council by Alicent then got defeated by Larys’s scheme and casted away by people’s “whispering” easily.
Between S1E7 and S1E8, she spent 6 years away from King’s Landing which let Viserys fell completely into Hightower’s hands. She didn't come back to her dying father(maybe didn't know) until Lucery’s legitimacy was challenged, yet her only solution was to ask others to speak up for her. Without Daemon, her name will be utterly damaged even though the succession can be settled.
Besides offering her own sons' marriage as bargain she didn’t have plans for any upcoming crisis. She didn’t actually do anything for her kingdom or people. The only reason for her to be the heir, at this point, was solely because Viserys named her so. Of course it’s legally enough. But it’s not enough to gain my confidence or respect to heartily support her. I wanted to support her so much.
And now she agreed to leave King's Landing after knowing her father was dying in seconds. She chose to make a peaceful gesture by risking her heritage. She's truly her father's daughter.
p.s. When Daemon asked to be the heir in early episodes I understood why Viserys denied him. Now I felt he’s the only Targaryen who knows how to get shit done in this house.
p.p.s. I don't respect the concepts such as "rightful heir" or "birthright to rule" in a monarchy system and clearly not many characters in this show did. I watched the show for drama not for who holds the higher ground.
I like the way Daemon and Aemond low-key respected each other. When Aemond claimed his dragon, Daemon looked impressed and had the same little smirk as Aemond had when Deamon beheaded Vaemond. Daemon intervened the fights specifically by stopping Jacaerys to proceed as if he knew what Aemond was truly capable of. Also the moment they stared each other then Aemond backed off because he knew what Daemon can do to him. They recognized each other in their own chaotic way even though they were at opposite sides.
The anti-Aemond fans have such a typical mindset of victim blaming.
You guys were all like yes he can fight back but he should have fought carefully with heart and sympathy and love for others. He should be very mindful about his self-defense behaviors and never crossed the line. He should be humble and grateful of what he got instead of showing off and mocking others. Oh how people hate it when a victim can flip the table. The moment Aemond stood up suddenly he received more moral judgement than any other characters in the show because if he can just stay where he was everything will be okay.
Comments said he can claim his dragon but he should have showed sympathy towards his cousins, which literally means waited till others to claim the dragon because he was leaving the next day. It’s wild to me that people was mad because Aemond didn’t risk the chance of losing a dragon to be a good kid. Also when the four kids kicked him to bleed it’s completely fine but after he grabbed his attacker by the throat he’s supposed to let Luke go gently, no bad feelings.
He’s just a child who constantly got bullied by peers through his life but how dare he be angry? How dare he hold grudge? How dare he throw tantrum and act crazy? How dare he ignore the limits like others he observed? How can he not control his feelings and lost temper? How can he feel entitled after finally feeling worthy?
People claimed it’s natural for the girls to feel robbed for losing a dragon even though it didn’t belong to their family because they were grieving, but couldn’t apply the same logic to Aemond for his “mistiming” and “cocky”. The victim was expected to be good and quiet and waiting to be saved. They don’t like him to be an uncontrollable chaos on his own. Why? You don’t care when he became what he was. You only care he now can hurt the characters you like.
Who tf designed that filter???? Who made the choice???? Who approved and supported??? Do you hate your audience???
I was technically blind during the half of the episode???
The whole time jump between S1E5 and S1E6 was only for the children. The script spared ten years for those children to grow up so they can move on to the next part of the story. But meanwhile every other main character was just frozen in time. No one mentally grew out of their younger mindset. The show simply paused their character development and resumed it the moment the ten years passed. So basically all of them still clinged to the same issues that happened in the last episode as if they have done absolutely nothing to address them during the past ten years.
And that's just lazy, lazy writing.
Daemon, finally developed a stable mental status after ten years of reading and healthy relationships with his family, back to Kings Landing:
The ten-year-gap made much less sense in the show than in the book. It undermined many characters’ arch and made the whole political scheme looks like a child play. Daemon, who came back to flirt with his niece multiple times despite being banished, also the one told Rhaenyra marriage was just an arrangement, spent ten years away from her simply because she’s married? Alicent has been sulking and paranoid with Rhaenyra for ten years based on nothing but a betrayal from their teenage years and faith in decency? Criston Cole also held grudge with the princess for ten years from a failed proposal? As for Rhaenyra herself, she spent ten years by the side of Viserys but seemed to gain no political power inside or out of the house? She received nearly no support from the counsil, constantly got bullied by the Queen and the only partial ally House of Strong left her too easily.
Tbh I didn’t feel anyone was playing the game of thrones as the audience expected. Rhaenyra didn't have a plan to defend her position except the marriage proposal at the end. Her ten years in Kings Landing achieved nothing then she left to..... avoid the storm? Why did you even stay in the first place? It took ten years for her to realize people were whispering? It’s almost amusing how Alicent can feel so threatened by an heir who did’t really know what she’s doing. Also the ridiculous argument between Rhaenyra and Laenor felt so forced. Like what exactly did Rhaenyra expect Laenor to do by forbidding him to leave even for a few months? Is there anything new he suddenly can do for her while in the past ten years they didn’t think about?
Even the fall of Strongs didn’t require intelligent planning. Anyone can murder with enough balls and protection. It felt like the show can only manage to write a great family drama but when it came to high-end political play the writers had no idea how to separately it from a gangster movie.
Daemon and Leana’s story was the one made the most sense but unfortunately it didn’t get the chance to shine at all. It was pushed too fast we only got to know those new characters a little bit. The scenes between the childbirth and the dragon felt at least should be 10 minutes long but it cut too soon, which left the audience wondered how in the earth can Leana got rid of everyone so fast and came to her dragon on her own?
I was so looking forward to the episode that Daemon and Rhaenyra getting married but... in S1E6, the magic of their affection to each other seemed to fade away. Rhaenyra didn’t mention or miss Daemon a single bit on the screen. Of course one can argue she hidden it away but all I can see was that she’s totally occupied by her (losing) power game and the love for the family. Her marriage with Daemon won’t feel like a final reunion anymore but another political arrangement in the end.
At last, the adult version of Rhaenyra and Alicent felt much more boring than their young ones.
