đŒDaisyClan: Moon 25đŒ
âA mediator?â Woodpelt snorted, her tail twitching. âWe donât need a mediator.âTulipnight wasnât ruffled by Woodpeltâs dismissal, but she felt Daisyrunner shift beside her. The medicine cat and the former leader had always rubbed each other the wrong way, but it was even worse now that the Clan was starting to take sides. Woodpelt was an enthusiastic supporter of Minkstar, but many cats believed that Daisyrunner should reclaim their position. Tulipnight wasnât sure where she stood - sheâd never been one to take sides. But she knew a Clan fighting amongst itself could never stand against its enemies. She understood now why StarClan told her to come here.âI think we do need a mediator,â Tulipnight responded in an even tone. âAnd I think I am the cat to do it. I was happy in HillClan. There, I have a mate and a beautiful kit, who now has kits of her own. I miss them every day. I miss the connections I had in my birth Clan.â Tulipnight paused as her throat clenched. She took a deep breath and went on. âI have no connections here, but I think thatâs exactly why StarClan thinks Iâll be a good mediator. I can picture your disagreements from an outsiderâs perspective.âÂ
Woodpelt huffed and turned back to the herb stores, picking out a shrivelled leaf. âI find it hard to believe that StarClan would send a message to a warrior rather than a medicine cat.â She meowed tartly.
âIf the message is important enough, StarClan will say it to whichever cat needs to hear it,â Daisyrunner responded. Their voice was calm, but Tulipnight could see the flash of exasperation in their eyes. She imagined the pair had many conversations just like this.
âEven if a warrior was contacted by StarClan, only a medicine cat could interpret their true meaning,â Woodpelt said. She shot a glance at Tulipnight. âDid you even discuss this with HillClanâs medicine cat before you ran off?âÂ
Tulipnight bowed her head. âI did not,â she admitted, âBut StarClanâs message wasnât exactly cryptic. I was standing atop a windswept hill, like the ones in my birth Clanâs territory, looking down into a sheltered valley. There was a bed of daisy flowers there, and among them a single, red tulip.â Tulipnight met Woodpeltâs sharp gaze, and tilted her head. âDonât you think they meant for me to come here?â âPerhaps, but they never said anything about being a mediator, did they?â Woodpelt said with a dismissive tail-flick. âDaisyClan is doing just fine without your âoutsiderâs perspective.ââ
The fur on Daisyrunnerâs shoulders raised. âBut weâre not,â They insisted. âThe Clan is choosing sides. Weâre supposed to be united! I donât even want to be leader, but if it is StarClanâs will -âWoodpelt turned on Daisyrunner, her tail lashing. âIf it is StarClanâs will, they will tell me!â She spat. Tulipnight sighed as the two cats went on squabbling. Oh StarClan, she thought, I sure have my work cut out for me . . . >>>
