i've been inside my room since sunday. i'm turning into this.
"they keep calling me indian"
from sea to shining sea (2014)
"this is for the crackers"
-from sea to shining sea (2014)
"there's a light in your eyes and its pure"

being an asian kid growing up in america, i've always wondered why it was only the white people who got to have colorful eyes and colorful hair.
Hey folks
some of you may know already but i have finally finished my portfolio for art school (cue applause and cheer). with that being said i now have a lot of time to kinda experiment and have a little more fun with my artwork. i'm gonna be starting a new series of drawings (maybe paintings too...who knows) and its gonna be called "from sea to shining sea". in case y'all haven't noticed by now...i'm really into historical american imagery. our country's history is ugly. if you think about it, America's birth was an inconvenience to literally everyone else in the world. something about our dirty past really turns me on creatively. so i'm gonna be doing portraits that look like they belong in the colonial era. i hope it makes you uncomfortable.
i used to curse my korean descent. i had to grow up in this country being told every moment of my life that i'm part of the minority. this place is cold, harsh and disgusting but its home and this is my interpretation of it's beginning.
cool.
"taking on water" (pencil)
this is my first attempt at landscape. no one told me that its a whole nother ball game. it's so difficult. you really need to calculate and pay attention to proportions.
i'm really proud of my shadowing though. look at that boat. i'm good at shading now. call me slim shady.
*also notice the little ripples under the twigs to show the direction of flow. haha
Day 2
i'm at the point where i can kinda create my own characters now. its cool. i'm getting better. i'm beginning to understand shadow. he kinda looks like the bad guy from smurfs though.
Day 1
this is going to be filled up by the end of the week.
