Sometimes I don't need to focus on reading and understanding text. Conceptual models, visual research and simple browsing are much more fun with Beastie Boys. This track makes me feel old, intellectual and still pretty funky. It's a B-Boy Bouillabaisse!

About 1-2 times a year, the vanilla Android operating system (known as AOSP, or the Android Open Source Project) is internally developed, then released to the public, by Google. They provide the source code to anyone who wants to download it. The CyanogenMod community, comprised of unpaid volunteers and enthusiasts from around the world, takes this newest Android code and “ports” it to dozens of new and older (aka “legacy”) devices. At the same time, other CyanogenMod developers start adding features, fixes, and improvements that Google didn’t include to the CyanogenMod code, which benefits all the devices. The CyanogenMod community has a whole infrastructure for people to build and test experimental versions, report bugs, and contribute back to the source code. Sometimes features that started in CyanogenMod have appeared in newer version of “official” Android

This is not a new Apple release or something stupid a politician said.

It's shipping, but it's universally impressive.

Music to work by #1

Much of my work time I sit in offices with many people. That's great when you want to interact, share an idea, ask an expert and experience the dynamics of many different T-shaped people with each their domain expertise and a shared passion for digital business.

But oftentimes, when I need to focus I need music that is both unobtrusive and yet inspiring to block out the sounds of others.

This album is not only my favorite music of all times, it is also great for working by.

I would love to do something creative as this in my work for some of our clients.

The Conchords have a creative idea for a music video - and they execute it very low budget.

Probably most music videos are low budget today, but instead of turning down ambition, the conchords still wanna do lots of scenes and special effects. In my opinion this makes the video so much more worth the show than a pure minimalistic setup.

This oughta close?

Wow, it just appeared to me, that my tumblr blog (this one) is more than a year since it's latest post. Not very present, huh?

Fact is, that I am no longer quite sure what to use it for, which either makes me very uncool or damn hipster, now that Tumblr got acquired by Yahoo!

I've closed down my very humble Facebook presence recently and find myself using only LinkedIn and Twitter.

One thing is, that I wanna "get out more" using networks actively, but still corresponding to my personality (I prefer the personal meeting or giving a public speak). Another thing is that I need to use selected media actively, because it ends up in search results and is linked to from other sites. Since I've been away from SimonInc for a while maybe I should close it down...

If nothing new is written here in the next couple of days, I have left for LinkedIn and Twitter. Sorry Yahoo!, still I'm sure it won't affect your bid price (Maybe I'll even ditch Flickr, because it also dropped after you bought it)

I for one like that internet business is shifting from "this business model was my idea" to free markets where suppliers will enter until real competition. I don't believe Schweppes had the soda industry to himself or Henry Ford was the only one to optimize production? Those Samwer brothers are described as very unpleasant people, but their line of business - entering new monopoly markets is healthy for those markets.

Among company and agency respondents, almost half said that social media has added many more programs and goals, but not the revenue to support new hires, indicating this to be a key challenge

Mobile Trends 2012

Last week I was invited to speak at the last Headstart Network meetup in 2011. I was to talk about Mobile (+Social) Trends for 2012 predicting 5 themes.

That was a great opportunity to skip some of the skepticism (or voice of reason if you will) that I often practice when colleagues, competitors or clients ask for mobile killer solutions for their marketing mix. If we want to make money on our digital investments, we need a bit skepticism.

But last week was all about trends and forecasting, so I took it up a notch (only a notch) and proposed the following for 2012 mobile trends: 

Offline Investigating, enriching and disitributing it

Money The purchase medium, the exclusivity, the wallets and the tablets

Web is (not) dead Because that turns out to be all wrong - thank God!
