(Matthew) “What is that you’re eating?”

[Prompt]

“Fried cram and tato sandwich,” he said with a smile, and motioned to a half of sandwich on a plate in front of him. “Help yourself if you’re hungry.”

[simonsaysnah]

“That’s not… That’s not what I meant to say. Um… I’m just gonna…”

[Prompt]

“No, you’re fine,” Simon said with a shake of his hand, waving a hand as if her slip up hadn’t hit him square in the chest - almost knocking the breath from his lungs.

“I get it. It’s been a long day, uh... if you wanna take a break I think Eddie’s making pancakes for dinner. With how he cooks, there will be more than enough for you to join in.”

(Starling) “Who are they?”

[Prompt]

“Friends. Atom Cats,” he said, and motioned to the trio off in the distance - a curly-haired male, a shaggy-haired blond male, and a brunette woman - who appeared to be fighting over who was going next in line for stew. 

“Eddie is the taller guy with the long hair, Garrett is the shorter guy in the plaid shirt and Dana is the gal,” he explained and offered Starling a playfully apologetic smile. 

“Once Gage told the group this place was - and I quote - ‘the bee’s knees’ everyone wanted to have a look for themselves. They’re a bit of a rowdy bunch, but they’re good people. One stern look and they’ll quiet down.”

“ i’m all done, do your thing.”

[Prompt]

“Thanks,” he said with a smile, settling into the worn chair as he hunched over the damage eyebot, attempting to assess if there was any hope of repair.

(Starling) “Where else are we gonna go?”

[Prompt]

Simon would have argued, had another green flash of lightning not lit up the sky and a rumble of thunder not followed so close behind. He didn’t like the idea - not at all, not unless they knew for sure the place was abandoned - but the storm was rolling in faster than they had time for.

“Alright. Okay,” he conceded, throwing his hands up and heading towards the dark building. “When you’re right, you’re right. At least it has a roof.”

“ i want something in return for that.”

[Prompt]

"Yeah, of course, I'm sure coming across this was like finding a needle in a haystack," he said with a nod, reaching into his bag for his caps. "How much you want? I can see if I've got anything to trade, too, but I'm not sure I'll have anything you'd need."

(Grant) “ i shot him. before it could…”

[Prompt]

"Hey, it was merciful, what you did," Simon replied as Grant trailed off, and despite his better judgement, he reached out to lay a gentle hand on the man's shoulder. "They would have been a goner either way. Deathclaws are no joke. You did him a favor."

“I was… [scoffs] Okay, I was not that excited.”

[Prompt]

“I dunno...” he teased, nudging Zoey’s arm with an elbow. “Seemed pretty excited to me.”

[simonsaysnah]

“I guess we can both talk to him at the same time.”

[Prompt]

“I figure between the two of us, one of us will succeed in talking some sense into him,” he replied with a shake of his head. “He can be so damn stubborn sometimes.”

“I’m actually pretty good at being alone at night.”

[Prompt]

Simon may have stared at her blankly for a few seconds longer than intended, but he did manage to keep his thoughts inside his head and not let them come out of his mouth.

Instead, he merely nodded and took a swig of cola before shrugging his shoulders.

“You don’t have to be alone tonight. I can either walk you back to where you’re staying, or you can stay here,” he offered with a small smile.

“More than enough places to sleep here, and I make a mean pancake for breakfast.”

“ i’m not trying to definitively stop ya. just maybe slow your roll.”

[Prompt]

"Yeah, you're right, sorry," he said with a shake of his head and an apologetic smile. "Just got excited is all."

(Matthew) “You want a coffee? 'Cause I could use a coffee.“

[Prompt]

“Ooh, yes, please,” Simon confirmed with a nod, standing from his spot at the watch point and stretching his legs. “Honestly, I’m always up for coffee. Did you want me to go get some and you stay here, or are you wanting to look at anything other than empty land for a little bit?”

“Do I lose points if I tell you I’m having a pretty nice time?”

[Prompt]

“Of course not,” he said with a laugh, turning from the stove to have a drink and shoot her a smile. “I think if anything, I’d be losing points if you weren’t having a good time.”

(Slim) “We gotta get out of here.”

[Prompt]

“And we will,” he stated firmly, reaching over to give Slim a grounding squeeze on the shoulder. The odds weren’t currently in their favor, but they hadn’t been noticed by the raiders yet, so there was a good chance they could sneak out of the building before they were ever discovered.

“We just have to keep a level head and stay one step ahead of the bastards and that’s a piece of cake,” he continued, giving an additional shoulder squeeze before peeking into the hallway to see if there was anyone there. 

The talking was growing fainter, leading Simon to believe the raiders were headed in the opposite direction, and as he glanced down the hall, his thoughts were confirmed: the raiders had their backs to the room and were almost all the way on the other side of the building. A few more minutes and they’d be down the steps to the basement and the two of them could bail on the scavenging mission.

“Just a little while longer and we’re homeward bound.”

“This isn’t right. We should split up. We can cover more ground that way.”

[Prompt]

“No, no, I think we should stay together,” Simon argued with a shake of his head. “We don’t know what we’re dealing with yet, so even though it’ll take longer, I think we stick together. We’d have a better chance at fending off anything than we would separated.”

“My problem is that I push people away and then hate them for leaving.”

[Prompt]

Simon stopped mid-sip and stared quietly at Zoey over the top of his glass at her words. After a moment of pause, he finished drinking and nodded, clearly more than a little uncertain of how he should react to such a confession.

“Alright, well...” he murmured, leaning forward to set his drink down on the table between them. “My problem... is that I’m afraid of being alone, so I tend to let people walk all over me so as not to upset them, that way they’ll stay.”
