Gonna say it's weird to me when people Assume Terry must be deeply traumatized or been rejected/abandoned by his home bc he never ever says that but it's become a weird and uncomfortable fandom standard

Like ppl in the wild talking about Terry being abused or rejected by his home and I'm like WHAT

Like it frustrates me a bit that trans=Trauma by default to a lot of ppl when tdp hasn't shown any in universe homophobia or transphobia tbh. Like it certainly Can (hello my own life) but ppl making the leap and saying it's canon when it just isn't is. Not correct. And it changes the tone of Terry traveling with Claudia to be like "oh he feels forced to" when frankly it just seems like he loves Claudia and could leave if he wanted but doesn't want to

Hello! I’m Ben Callins— the voice of Terry, and I would love to end the speculation that Terry’s faced discrimination from his family/from other Earthblood elves because he is trans.

🚫There is no homophobia or transphobia in Xadia!🚫

I’ve spoken to the writers about Terry’s past and who he is, and he (in the wise words of Devon Giehl) is an odd duck amongst other Earthblood elves, but he’s an odd duck that just *happens* to be trans— not *because* he is trans.

Terry has a supportive family, and community. He’s just a wandering spirit who found his place away from home!

Thank you to the OP for bringing this up— there is an ongoing theme in media for trans characters to be traumatized *because they are trans*. (and while— yes— as a trans man myself— I have faced enough discrimination and prejudice to fill a museum). But that does not *define* my existence as a trans person. The same should go for any trans character too!

(I would like to clarify that me saying that last bit is in no way meant to be a reflection toward anyone who thought Terry had faced discrimination! This is just an ongoing issue in media that I felt compelled to discuss.) <3

I am seeing some of the WORST takes about tdp season 4. Sweet, sweet tumblr users. This season was a lot of set up, not everything was supposed to be explained or resolved, or even "should" have been. Season 4 had to do the heavy leg work of re-establishing characters and arcs and the plot moving foreword. It just needs a little time to be able to act on everything it's now established. It did a good job building off of arc 1, and now we are fully indoctrinated into arc 2!

SO relieved Rayla wasn’t only revealed at the very end—she got a full season!

Speaking of screentime, I really appreciated how Amaya and Janai weren’t sidelined! When I initially heard about the engagement I feared that it meant they had pushed all their development to the timeskip. I’m glad we got to see them solve important problems together

RAYLA DID NOT HANDLE THAT REUNION WELL I thought it was hilarious how she gave such a heartfelt apology to Ezran and nothing of the sort to Callum

Terry my boy he’s everything to me. He’s such a sweetheart. I’m going to draw fan art of him asap (I’ll reblog it here if I remember)

I was so scared for Soren having to see Viren again. He legitimately gaslit his own child. It really hurt when he called Claudia the most special person he’s even known and told Terry he’d do anything for his family like Damn What About That Son Of Yours

ALL THE ATLA REFERENCES? I’m going to try and document them later but I CANT BELIEVE IT THEY DID IT AGAIN THE MADLADS

I thought it was kind of endearing how so many jokes are now outdated… like the flossing and the slime

A FEW MORE THINGS! Awesome animation as usual! There were some really cool scene transitions in the first few episodes. Placing Ezran as he gives his speech into the Claudia vs Ibis fight was a nice touch. In general, lots of excellent shot choices, fun 2D effects, and character movement. I’ve always been a fan of how The Dragon Prince pushes its artistry to new levels.

The nuance in the conflict between the human architect and elf griever was incredibly well done. This season was no exception to The Dragon Prince’s trademark ability to spell out complex, multi faceted conflict.
