Book review: “Flash Boys” by Michael Lewis

I really enjoyed this book, and I’d strongly recommend it for anyone studying or looking to study economics, or wanting to work in finance, as it could be really interesting to discuss in applications/interviews. 

The book is about the explosion of “high frequency trading” since the 2008 financial crisis. Reading it will help you understand why the notion that all bankers are “bad” is wrong, and how financial markets are actually working at the moment, none of which you are ever likely to be taught. 

The author tells the story of a number of exceptional characters, documenting the struggles of a minority fighting the majority- who have vested interests. The book isn’t too long, about 300 pages, and can be finished in a few weeks. Happy reading!
