oh i am SO making a Beelzebeef cult
I still think about the time I got a job by talking about my simblr in the interview
@elvisgrace
Okay so I went to an interview for a company that makes comedy shows in the UK and a friend who had a little more experience than me was also being interviewed, although I didn't know this.
And we discussed my work in the TV/film industry at this point and I had only ever worked on set and this job would be in office which meant I was unlikely to get the job because the type of work is very different.
Until we got to the "tell me about life outside of work" section of the interview and I mentioned a few hobbies and stuff and it was completely normal.
Until I mentioned my Simblr...
And I didn't go into huge nerdy detail, I said "Oh I also use the game the sims to make a mini soap opera" and the producer interviewing me had never heard of such a thing before and asked me to elaborate.
"Well the game comes with a camera you can move around, and over the last 15 years people who play the game have been modding content you can download into it, so you could make a historical drama or a scifi, anything really. And photoshop helps with any other limitations"
Interviewer was really intrested in the modding part so I told her about people I spoke with on various platforms who either made stuff for me or helped me find somthing that I asked for, always for free.
And the thing is, in office when making TV shows you need to make friends and contacts to be able to get things sorted on a short time scale, you'll need to have things custom made and you'll need video and photo editing skills.
All of which I had accidently mentioned I do within the sims community, without knowing it I had a transferable skill.
My friend ended up getting hired because she had the confirmed skills needed but then called me up and said they'd adjusted the budget and would like to hire me as well on a shorter contract and admitted it was the sims talk that made it impossible for them to not want me.
So yeah, got a job by talking about my sims hobby.
Reminder that the sims community and all that has been created with it can be transferable skills.
i too currently have a full time job in publicity / social media management for a publishing company, which i secured DIRECTLY using the skills i learned exclusively from simblr lol - they are 100% transferrable!

Addressing a few concerns
So, I assume most of you don't know, but there is a bit of drama inside the Paralives community. It's funny because this whole thing is revolving around The Sims 3.
TwistedMexi made his first paywalled "early access" mod called Sims 3 Camera, and I've been working on the same thing as he was. 1. Let's get the "clone" allegation out of the way first.
(Source: TwistedMexi's discord server)
TwistedMexi is accusing me of cloning his mod, but let’s look at the facts. Thankfully, I always use GitHub, so the commit dates are there to prove it.
(2026-05-26 22:27:02 +0200) is a timestamp of the first commit with hash d82ddd909e06833b0f8d5d439ad602d04a4f3e08
(2026-05-27T19:57:44.000+00:00) is a timestamp of the publication date of his Patreon post.
Honestly, I didn't know I could see the future, but ok.
2. The second thing I want to address is that currently there are a lot of awful comments directed at Tmex. PLEASE do not harass other creators.
3. Regarding early access and paywalls: My mods are developed in my spare time as a passion project. I believe in keeping my work accessible to everyone, which is why all of my content will remain completely free, forever. I believe the community should play a role in maintaining projects if the original creator steps away, which is why I always share the source code for my projects Free mods are a pillar of a healthy community, whereas paywalls only lead to gatekeeping and unnecessary drama. My hope is that more creators choose to release their mods in a way that prioritizes community growth and shared resources.
A reblog would be greatly appreciated to help spread this message.
Thanks for reading,
xoxo, Arro
