While we were living at Luz, an unexpected visitor arrived in the middle of the night by taxi from Faro (and with no escudos to pay his fare). It was Paul McCartney with his new girlfriend Linda and her daughter Heather, who was about the same age as our eldest child, Caitlin. They stayed for two weeks. We took them down the coast to Sagres and Cape St Vincent - the Land’s End of Europe - and went inland to Monchique where we had chicken piri piri at the Rampa, a primitive but wonderful little restaurant. Linda took endless photos and I captured it all on my Super 8 silent camera.
