This is a blog who used to be dedicated to call out and make fun of The Dragon Slayer, a discontinued horse webcomic. Now, we talk about webcomics in general, specially the ones made by authors who can't take a no for an answer.

The askbox is (usually) open, you're allowed to post on anon and all asks are meant to be published. But there are two rules:

No callouts. I will not post anonymous accusations of bigotry, abuse, etc... Without any proof. You can DM me about it, if it really concerns you.

No little ones. We aren't bashing children and teens over comics. We are not their parents. Always check the author's age before criticizing.

Other than that, you're free to send whatever you want. All death threats must be directed at me, though, I'm very greedy.

i think dapple is conveniently just out of frame so we can focus on honey and goose's heartfelt nothingburger conversation but it would be funny if she got up and went to fetch the cannibal crew lol

Dapple was dragged out of stage by the other actors so Honey and Goose wouldn't trip on the ending scene.

i’m going against the grain here to say I think it’s valid to critique these webcomics and have a blog where people can do such, but the way you go about it is wrong imo

you don’t just give your thoughts and criticisms and how to improve those things. you keep going. you make dozens upon dozens of posts about the same comic. you repeat yourself over and over. you constantly beat a dead horse

if any known art critic focused so heavily on one artist and their works, making dozens of articles or whatnot about this old person, they’d be seen as a major dick instead of someone respectable

just make your point and move on. constantly posting about someone stops being genuine criticism and starts becoming harassment/bullying. at some point a slew of the same posts stop being helpful

Thing is, anon, that this blog was never meant to be a professional source of information regarding webcomics. It's a place to let people comment about stuff they want, most of the time I'm not the one bringing up repeated points. And even despite my desire to let people comment anything, I do have a filter to avoid nasty shit. A couple of days ago, someone was trying to tell me about the new account of an author and I didn't publish that to protect their privacy. Same with asks that are straight up insulting people (luckily there's very few of those).

I understand it can get repetitive, but I don't think we've ever had a topic lasting longer than two months. And even then, these aren't magazine articles or YouTube videos, these are random posts. What are we, Reddit, where you can't post about the same topic twice a month?

Also, why is it unhelpful to repeat points here, but readers can repeat "yay Goose" and similar comments ad nauseam in one page? Why are we always the ones blamed for having normal fucking conversations? People follow the comics they like for months, we do the same, the only difference is that we don't lick the floor of the comic as it goes. Most of the times we are fans, not fanatics, we enjoy analizing what we read.

Anyways, thanks for your ask, I always appreciate a second opinion, even if I disagree with it.

not to minimize women's trauma sorry honey girl but i feel like nothing has actually happened to warrant this long and emotional of a reunion scene?? the actual threat is very much at large. all they did was kill dapple who aside from acting like an obsessive ex was the one person keeping the huge group of angry starved cannibals in check. are they not infinitely more fucked now? unless the implication here is that goose already killed them all??? how did he even survive why is everything "a haze" surely he knows what happened. what has he been doing the last several days. are there really only 2 pages left there's so many unanswered questions

They didn't check on Pebble when she was almost dead because it was Rowan's scene, now they won't even mention her because it's Goose's scene.

Pebble was only there to add drama without resolution. And a flashback.

At the end of the day, you're just a troll. You try to excuse yourself and put yourself in the morally superior position but you and people like you aren't willing to do shit to actually make the world a better place. You can only punch down.

Also, you're still assuming things lol. None of these authors are my friends. Nor do I have super strong feelings about the comics. Some things I like fine, some things I dislike. Shit, on the surface, I do actually agree with some of your takes. But how you go about it is horrendous. Have you considered that normal people can just look at your behavior and how you treat others and just think, wow, this person is a dick?

Again, if you want to make an actual difference in the lives of people who experience bigotry, there's way better ways to go about it. Volunteering for progressive political candidates you believe in is one. Should try it, feeling like you're actually trying to make a difference is a very nice feeling.

I don't know if you're trying to imply something with that, but I'm going to let that slide, just in case it wasn't intentional. And excuse me for thinking you care deeply about these comics when this is your third ask in a row, my bad.

The thing about online presence is that nobody really knows nobody. I can complain all I want about any comic I want, but at the end of the day, I don't know the author and the author doesn't know me. I can spend an entire day reading each and every single one of their posts, and I still wouldn't know them as people. For how much I dislike SD, I don't know them IRL. Maybe if I did I would find a wonderful person who's only flaw is to be insufferable online, but nobody's perfect.

Same happens with this blog. None of you know me. And I don't really care if someone sees me as a dick. When making this blog I was aware that I was going to look like an asshole regardless of what I did, because people already mocked and rejected anyone who didn't kiss the author's boots, so I ran with it. Some people like my attitude, some people don't, and both are fine. I'm not forcing my presence onto anyone.

"You don't make the world a better place", you guys love using that empty argument to deflect criticism and yet, you never think that the same can be said about you. What are you doing? Defending a grown adult you don't know for being talked about in a way you don't like? Wow, groundbreaking, you're getting the Nobel prize this year for sure. I can tell you what I'm doing when I'm not on the blog. I'm currently working on a program that recycles school books so they're available to vulnerable children for the next year. I don't like telling this kind of thing, because it looks like I'm showing off and it has nothing to do with the conversation about animal webcomics, but if you ask me, I'll have to share.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your retort ("BTW, hi, Dog! I know you use Tumblr! Stay mad.") may have been what summoned the indignant asks of that one stan. or maybe it was Songdog themself? lmao

It would be really funny if it was SD themself, but I doubt it. There's a couple of people that really dislike it when anyone dares to say something bad about their favourite comics and it's not the first time they're here.

They're an issue for me, because I love to answer them, but I know people here find them very tiring. If you want to avoid these asks, block the tag #sl rants

Just as it's valid for creators to curate their comment sections it's valid for commenters to look for a place where they can freely speak their mind, making spaces like this blog all the more needed. Even more so when highly restricted comments set the precedent for any negative opinion to be considered harassment and you genuinely can't say anything in public spaces. Not everyone has xenofiction-comic-reading friends and groupchats sometimes you just wanna get something off your chest and go. What comments are normally for when they're not turned into echo chambers

I've seen so many posts going like "this could have been told in a private chat" and it pisses me off a lot. Discussing the internalized bigotry present in webcomics shouldn't be hidden to protect the author's feelings. What about the feelings of the people who suffer from that bigotry?

If I make a comic with a character that is a racial caricature, anyone affected by those stereotypes has the right to tell me to go fuck myself in public. Would anyone care about my feelings then, even if I did the caricature by accident? Would anyone dare to tell the other people to shut up to maintain the good vibes? It's nonsense!
