Dave laughed quietly and smiled. “Good. I wouldn’t want to,” he said. “I guess I should get going before I get kicked out of here for crashing,” he said. Suddenly the fake decorations and everything scattered around that had comforted him before were now beginning to disgust him, and he needed to leave. “You should stay and have fun with your friends. But if you get bored or Blaine shows up, you’re always welcome over at my house,” he told him before standing up out of the booth.

Kurt wanted to tell Dave to stay, that he was sure that Sugar wouldn’t mind. Or even that they were each other dates...but that wouldn’t be smart, not with what just happened. It might just make things extremely awkward. So instead, he just nodded, “Yeah, I think I’ll just stay here for a bit so I can at least see if Sugar will pull an Opra and give us free i pads.” he joked. “I’ll call you later, okay?”

It hurt a little that Kurt had thrown away his gifts, but he understood. “It’s okay. Most of them were really cheesy,” he said dismissively. He looked at their hands and somehow, that made up for a little bit of the rejection he was being given. Dave forced a smile and nodded. At least he was lettting him down easy. “I understand. I know you’ll be leaving Ohio soon and I just had to tell you before I did something impulsive and pushed you away farther,” he said. “We’ll still be friends, right? I hope you don’t feel weird about this because it doesn’t change anything for me,” he rambled, giving Kurt’s hand a soft squeeze before pulling it away. Dave’s chest hurt and rudely intrusive thoughts of self pity were slipping into his mind, but he just swallowed hard and kept smiling at him.

“No, they were cute. I would have appreciated them but I just assumed they were from you-know-who.” he said not wanting to keep bringing Blaine into the conversation. Kurt was through with letting him be such a strong person in his life. And he felt bad enough about having to reject Dave, they had become such good friends he didn’t want to end that. “Of course. You're one of my only real friends. You can’t get rid of me so easily.” He said and returned the squeeze with a smile.

“The party doesn’t start until later, technically. That’s why I invited you here so early,” he explained. Dave watched Kurt read and tried to read what he was feeling from his face. Dave took a deep breath and exhaled before saying “Yes, I do. I’ve had a little crush on you since last year but I thought that was just me projecting what I was trying to figure out on you, but with us being friends and everything these last few months…. I know they’re real,” he said, staring up at Kurt.

“Oh my god, you were the one sending all those gifts this week.Dave...I had no idea.” Kurt said, he was still trying to process everything. He still in the mindset that Blaine was the one doing all this and to know that it was Dave..it changed everything. They all suddenly meant something and there was an instant regret for all those gifts he threw away. “I feel so bad for throwing those cards into the garbage now.” He said then looked at his friends hand on the table and took it. “I thought that Blaine sent me all those things, which was really stupid of me since all the gifts were really thoughtful...Dave, you’ve been a really good friend to me for a while and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I didn’t have some feeling for you too...but I don’t think I’m ready for a relationship right now.”

Dave wanted to interrupt Kurt, but his mouth wouldn’t let any words out despite their efforts while Kurt went on. He just forced his lips into a weak smile until Kurt stopped. “There’s… no one else,” he said, shaking his head. “And… Blaine’s not coming. Well, he might be for the party but I planned on being gone before that,” he said. Dave looked down and grabbed a box of candy with a card attached that read ‘Kurt, I think I love you. Love, David.’ Dave held his breath while Kurt read the note.

Kurt laughed when Dave said there was no one else, “Then how did you get in here?” he asked but let the other boy continue as he listened. He furrowed his brows, wondering what was going on as he took the candy box and read the note. He felt his face go red as he looked up at Dave. “You... actually have feelings for me?” He asked, it might have been a stupid question but he never thought Dave actually liked him that way when he kissed Kurt or even the second time when he tried to. It just all felt like the spur of the moment to which Kurt never gave it to much thought.

Today was the big day. In a short while, Dave wouldn’t be able to hide behind a gorilla mask anymore. Dave knew the move he’d made on Kurt a few months ago was out of line. Him and Blaine had just broken up and they’d barely reconnected even as friends. He’d been confused and took it out on Kurt, again, but this time was different. He knew how he felt about Kurt. Their close friendship over the last few months told him that, and he had to tell him. He couldn’t stay friends with him and not tell him, it was unfair to them both. And Dave was ready for if Kurt said no, but he didn’t want to think about that now, as he sat at an empty booth towards the back corner of Breadstix. There were heart streamers and other decorations just littering the place. It made Dave feel hopeful, like maybe real love was in the air. Dave had forgone the whole gorilla getup, and only had the mask sitting beside him, that he pulled on only when he caught a glimpse of Kurt walking through the door, talking to the hostess and being lead back to Dave’s table.

Kurt was not looking forward to tonight. After all the gifts that he was sure were from Blaine, he knew that the night would not end well. Sure, he missed his ex. It was hard when the boy was his best friend and the two had gotten so close...but Kurt had to remind himself that it didn’t make up for the fact that Blaine had been horrible to him the last few weeks before he ended it. He had to put Blaine’s fantasy of them back together to an end. As the hostess lead Kurt to the table, he noticed Dave and stepped forward with a grin on his face and let the hostess know that he was going to talk to his friend first. It looked like she was going to say something but decided against it as Kurt sat down with Dave. “Oh my god, Dave! I didn’t know Sugar invited you.” He said scooting in more then looking around the restaurant to see if Blaine had arrived yet. “Honestly. I’m glad there’s someone here I know besides the glee club. I think Blaine is going to show up any minute and I know I’m going to need someone to get out of here with...” It suddenly hit Kurt that there was one rule to Sugar’s party...No single people allowed. Even though Kurt knew he should be happy, he felt weirdly sad. “Oh. You’re probably here with someone, aren’t you? I don’t meant that in a bad way. I’m happy for you.” He said as he forced a smile, “is he here yet? Do I get to meet him?”

Kurt picked up the card and read the front. If he wasn’t so sure that it was from Blaine he might have smiled at the reference, instead he let out a groan. Maybe he should have thrown it away but he chose to open it and saw the date. He should just call Blaine and tell him to leave him alone, it would be quick and easy. But if he hadn’t listened before, he doubted he would listen now. He’d just have to go to Breadstix tomorrow and tell him in person. There was no other way he could put things to rest.

Kurt was never a fan of Valentines Day, the holiday was just a stupid way for companies to make money. And being single, he couldn’t help be a little bitter. So it came as a surprise when a man in a gorilla suit came up to Kurt during his Lunch period with balloons and a stuffed Gorilla. It was so cheesy but Kurt laughed as he opened the card that the little stuffed animal help.

“Oh my god. Who is this from?” He asked to which the man just shook his head before leaving. “Looks like floodpants is trying to get you back.” Noah commented with his mouth full of mac and cheese. Kurt’s grin dropped, he hadn’t really thought about that. It was a possibility seeing as Blaine had kept sending him gifts and texts since they broke up. He must be using this holiday as an excuse to start back up. With a huff, threw the gift across the table to Puck before trying to finish his food.

Kurt: I'm over it. As long as you go then I'll be fine.

Kurt: Tell that to Artie, Ms. Pillsbury, and Coach Bieste. I know...He says normal pants are too long for his legs.

Kurt: It's fine. It's not like I didn't know that people see me as feminine. I just wouldn't fit role of a strapping male lead like Blaine would.

Kurt: He's like in two scenes. I have about the same number of lines as the number of times I'm on stage.

Dave: Wait, what? That's what they said to you? So Blaine's the lead? wtf?

Kurt: That's sweet....I think.

Kurt: Well, not to my face. I over heard them. Blaine auditioned for my part but he used a Tony song so they liked him better.

Kurt: It's fine though, I told him he should do it.

Kurt: Oh my god. I can't believe you still call your fists the fury.

Kurt: No, actually...I'm not manly enough according to Artie and coach Beiste.

Kurt: Apparently Blaine is though.

Dave: West Side Story, right? That's the one that's like Romeo and Juliet?

Kurt: That's really sweet Dave...but please don't beat up my boyfriend.

Kurt: That's exactly the one. I think the whole glee club did a really good job and you'll of course see an amazing performance by yours truly. That should be enough incentive.
