A thought (headcanon).

Laurent had been growing his hair out for a long time, especially after Auguste’s death, because Auguste had long hair too. His uncle always said it made him cute and charming, so Laurent saw no reason to cut it. When his uncle "abandoned" him, Laurent cut off his hair as sloppily as possible with a dagger and walked around with a nest on his head for a week.

A thought. Damen was not stronger than Auguste. Auguste spared him and gave him a chance to raise his sword, for whatever reason; Damen did not spare him in return. Auguste could have stopped him. So what? Nothing. Only that all of the Lamens’ internal assurances that Damen was simply stronger seem to me to be self-deception.

Damen wasn’t ordered to kill August. He said, “Father, I can defeat him.” It was Damen’s own initiative. He killed him not only of his own accord, but also of his own volition. Of course, he wanted to save his people. The life of an enemy prince is hardly worth anything compared to his own people. August would hardly have survived anyway. ...or maybe he would have. Maybe.

A thought.

When Laurent first invited Damen into his bed, he saw sex as something wicked and unpleasant, or pleasurable in the wrong way. But Laurent invited him anyway, because he wanted to. Because the inevitable breakup was coming soon, because if it turned out badly, Laurent might be able to hate him again. But Laurent probably sensed that it wouldn’t be bad, because the man he had fallen in love with turned out to be attentive and tender, even if it meant he had to wear the mask of a slave. Laurent didn’t know how much Damen would change once there were no more masks between them, but he probably desperately wanted to seize this last chance, because it’s better to do something and regret it than to not do it and regret it.

Okay, here’s an unpopular (?) opinion. I don’t like it when Damen acts dominantly toward Laurent. I’m sure I’ve missed out on some well-written fanfics because of this, probably… But I really can’t stand it. In my view, Laurent should be carried on hands, even if he’s ready to take the whole world upon his shoulders.

I do love it when Laurent says "attend me." For some reason, to me it just sounds so… so aristocratic. So elegant. Not just "Serve me," but like this… just like that. He can say "attend me" and I'm ready to follow him and fall to my knees.

Is there any specific reason why Damianos is sometimes given the surname Vallis? It’s certainly not Βασίλειος, though it’s close. Because of the similarity in sound? Hmm.

I love this kind of fanfiction... Mostly post-canon stories... Where they show Laurent's dark side. Where you can see him struggling. Where it's clear that peace is harder for him than war. I love it when Damen doesn't have enough patience to deal with Laurent's trauma — he tries, but it's not enough. When small misunderstandings can lead to disaster. But in the end, everything turns out okay. Drama with a happy ending is my favorite tag.
