i think when a canon work is only allowed to be praised, fanworks stop being given the room to be truly transformative. there is a decrease in curiosity for what could have been, there is less space to provide works seeking to illuminate the dark. the point of transformative works is to reshape, its in the name. to focus on a small point is different than to reshape. one can do both, and one may often need to do both if they wish to reshape only a part. but the two are not the same

why is fandom less fun when black ppl or aro ppl or trans ppl tell you to check your biases. if its 'just a headcanon' why is it such a big deal that ppl ask you to think about why you made it

why do you never engage with black characters, why do you always think the same type of character is transmasc/fem, why do you only find romance interesting to the point of ignoring plotlines so you can create ships

are we actually just being the fun police or are you just being a bigot. why is pretending we dont exist necessary for your enjoyment

some of yall would sooner write senku as an insecure little bean or an insecure aggressive dom than as anything close to how he is in canon. i get that a lot of his traits arent the most comfortable, but is personal discomfort more important than accuracy? obviously y'all do this for fun anyway, so if its not fun then you should focus on the fun. full stop. have fun. if its not fun then theres little point. part of my fun is characterization. that is why im making this post.

but what makes it so uncomfortable to portray him accurately that you cannot have fun that way?

is it the intense lack of jealousy that let him send off taiju and yuzuriha to spy for him for a year and trusting them to still be his friends by the end of it? is it the intense lack of jealousy that didnt care about how many revived folks were being put in ryusuis pocket since hed still get their help anyway? is it the intense lack of jealousy that didnt mind gen 'defecting' and simply switched to account for him not being around?

or is it his lack of interest in manners that showed the most with how he treated his dad? the abrasive way he treated amaryllis, homura, and kohaku? him picking his nose and his ear and laughing at peoples surprise when he talks about a new plan?

is it that he prioritizes efficiency more than anything? is it that he prioritizes efficiency PROPERLY and ups efficiency by upping living conditions and THATS difficult because of how many of us had to deal with people who prioritized efficiency by doing the opposite? is it that his efficiency hurts a bit because of how effective it is in dr stone and you wish it either didnt really work or that it was in the real world too?

have your fun, im not your parent. dont even answer these questions to me, the answers are not of much interest to me. what im interested in is what youd do with your answers if you choose to do anything.
