Love your Kerdly post. It's really well thought out, and makes a lot of sense! I do really like the idea of there being some genuine romantic feelings between the two; the idea of Kris falling for someone who is totally unimportant to the prophecy, and totally uninvolved with the Dess situation, feels fitting. Like it's a defiance of fate itself to fall for someone so unimportant.

Plus it's pretty funny. So happy for Kris and their ugly ass potential boyfriend.

Gonna use this ask to spill more thoughts here lol, but I feel like that's the really touching part of this ship, that Kris may have fallen for someone that was completely unaccounted for. Berdly's entire THING is being unimportant and him being aware of that and for Kris to see him as more than that, I think that's a big deal. That simple detail may or may not have effects in the story later on, depending on how u want to explore it imo.

I just find it really beautiful??? There's no baggage, no strings attached, no one but the two of them and their own issues preventing something further. He's not even the most obvious choice with the way everyone around them keeps questioning and/or disregarding Berdly. It's like everyone has fallen for the unlikeable front he's put out (*cough* like the fandom *cough*), and yet Kris must've seen something about him that we're not privy to. That's their thing only to know and no they aren't sharing those thoughts with anyone. Not only is it embarrassing as a any teen would feel about sharing who their crush is, but it's also something they have control over. The only things standing in the way for them isn't fate, but Kris themself and their repression of ALL their feelings and Berdly's connections dilemma.

There's also something to be said about the simplicity behind their symbolisms if Kris has fallen for the bird, a symbol of freedom itself which they yearn for, as a cage which is imprisonment and restrictions; the thing that cuts off freedom itself. All the more beautiful that Berdly called them and sees them as a fellow bluebird. They are not bound by that title at all. It may have been an offhand comment to him but it would mean so much to Kris that Berdly unknowingly saw them differently from how the role they've been placed in. They too can cut themself free from their fate.

But yeah, at the end of the day it's a completely normal teen romance w a lighthearted rivalry and a little miscommunication for the funnies mixed into it. They're not star-crossed lovers, written into the grandious prophecy, no red string connecting them, not even the most conventional pairing. Just a simple cringy and nerdy crush that both can get teased over.

All the more tragic that in WR you can ruthlessly cut the bud before it blooms.
