i know that in no reality would ciel ever try to deceive sebastian to free himself from the contract. nor would he ever ask him to abandon his claim to his soul. and yet i cannot help but wish it was sebastian who made that offer.

that he would speak, voice low, almost too quiet to belong to something inhuman.

“my young lord… in all these years, i have never once lied to you.”

a pause, like something fragile threatening to fracture.

“not only because the contract demanded it of me, but because, in time, i came to regard you differently.”

“you taught me that humanity is not merely a fleeting curiosity — not just a butterfly caught in a web, struggling pointlessly as it hastens its own end… but something far more… difficult to define.”

his gaze would linger on him, unyielding, inescapable.

“and yet, you have lied every single day. to your friends. to your servants. to your fiancée.”

“to me.”

silence would settle between them — heavy, suffocating.

“so just this once be honest with me.”

another pause. long enough to feel like a blade pressed to the throat.

“do you wish to live?”

ciel would close his eyes.

not because he does not know the answer. but because saying it aloud would make it real. he can lie to himself. he has done so countless times before.

but not to him.

not to the creature who witnessed him at his weakest, who stood beside him when he was nothing but broken pieces, and never once looked away. not to the one who knows him more completely than anyone else ever could.

with his eyes still closed, as if even now he cannot bear to face it, he breathes out, barely above a whisper:
