Mushishi Zoku Shou Special (or what was meant to be Ep 11-12)

The Path of Thorns

The long wait is over as my favourite chapters were finally animated. Maybe the setback in not being televised could had a bright side as it allowed the two-part chapter to be shown uninterrupted in a 1-hour special. It would have been a much stronger season ending if it aired originally but as it is, it actually serves as a good ease-in to the next season and a reminder of Mushishi’s charm like the Sun-Eating Shade special did earlier in the year.

It’s rare for Mushishi to have episodes that have specific continuity so this episode was very special. I love how this special just calls back to Tanyuu’s story and uses that as a basis to contrast with the disturbing story of Kumado. In the end, it’s Ginko, Kumado and Tanyuu feelings ahoy as the trio all share fates forever changed by mushi.

I just have a lot of feelings and interest for Kumado and of course his relationship with the other two so read ahead for some paragraphs
