âMarcie, you arenât hearing what Iâm saying. I donât want to Parent Trap this.â Reese took the papers she was handing them, but sat them aside again. âI want to do it with you and Iâm not signing the papers,â he said again, eyes scanning over her features for a moment. Reese shook his head and ran a hand through his dark curls. âI donât even -- â He trailed off and let out a breath, dropping his hand as he tried to find the words. The ones that wouldnât dig him into a bigger hole than he already was. âYou know how I feel about you. How I still do.â he glanced up to find her gaze again, holding it for a moment. âSo if youâre doing this, if this is what you want -- why canât we do it actually together? Because Iâve been in a coparent situation, Marcie. And it sucks. As much as they tried, when my dad actually did, it sucked.â He paused, moving back a fraction, the expression on his face softening. âBut that depends on how you feel.â
Being a metamorphmagus meant that Marcie was basically a human mood ring with her hair shifting colours as she went through a range of emotions listening to her ex. There wasn't a day when she wasn't thinking about all of the what-ifs. What could have been had they not broken up? It was very clear to everyone who knew Marcie that she wasn't over him in the slightest. "Reese," she sighed as she willed her now-blue hair to go back to her natural jet-black colour. She hesitated for a second before placing her hand on his cheek. "You're the love of my life and yet we are broken up now. And what if we split again when they're already here? Won't that be even worse for them to be in the middle of it rather than already be used to that?" Marcie wondered and shook her head. "You're not your father, darling. I know you will do whatever it takes to keep them happy," she added, her thumb still gently stroking his cheek. "I'll think about it, okay? I promise," Marcie said before leaning forward to press a small kiss to his cheek. "We don't have to make any decisions right now."
