Dino-Date(?) || Maya & Cam
sirsaunders:
Maya returned a roll of her eyes, shaking her head a bit. âDoubt it.â She said simply. She had noticed that the boy was a little like herself; clumsy, awkward, and all around having no idea what to do. But she felt obligated to say otherwise, even though there was truth in it. He didnât seem too klutzy; nothing like Maya Matlin. âYouâre not all that awkward. Iâm worse, I swear.â The girl shot him a reassuring smile. She scrunched her nose a little at the mention of the popular reality TV show. âI completely agree.â Maya told him. She could never figure out why the Kardashian family was so famous. Yeah, they were all super pretty, but why did they get riches for having good genes? It wasnât fair, but neither was life. The niner couldnât help but feel glad that Campbell hadnât answered her question anyway. If he had taken back the compliment, she wouldâve been heartbroken. Although, Maya didnât believe the boy anyway, but she couldnât help but think there was a little truth to it; she wanted to hold on to that small bit of hope. If Cam took it back, there was no way the girl could do so. Quickly, Maya nodded her head after he had spoken. âYeah, youâre totally right.â She agreed, hoping itâd make him forget about her compliment. She was happy that he hadnât mentioned, or even acknowledged, it. Maya didnât want to deal with the confrontation, mostly because it would be really embarrassing for the young girl. She had no idea where the comment had came from; as it was completely unexpected and left her mouth abruptly. She wished she had thought before saying, but Maya hadnât, and now she was stuck to wonder what Campbell Saunders was thinking.
Waiting for Camâs answer scared her. How was he going to react? Was he going to get mad or just deny that the kiss even happened? The long silence made Maya even more anxious. She wanted to tell him to respond faster, but couldnât do so. Suddenly, he apologized. She assumed that Cam was about to tell the girl that he had no feelings for her. The blonde swallowed nervously, nodding her head to tell him to continue. She was readying herself to be rejected, when the brunette did the complete opposite. He liked her? How? She didnât understand why he would, but she couldnât complain. Maya stood there, obviously dumbfounded. There was an awestruck look on her face as she kept her eyes glued to Campbellâs. He didnât find her repulsive, and that made her stomach twist in knots. Maya had tuned out for a moment; up until the boy mentioned leaving. She quickly shook her head, but it was too late, he had already turned around to leave. Swiftly, Maya made we way over to him, grabbing his arm to stop Cam from continuing. âNo.. I donât want you to leave.â The girl spoke barely above a whisper, and gave him a sweet smile. She had no idea what to say, so she just pulled him closer towards herself. Leaning up, Maya pressed her lips against Campbellâs, keeping them there longer than their last kiss. She moved back, but not much, so she could speak again. âI do too.â Maya said softly, being able to feel her heart beating in her chest. âLike you, I mean.â The girl added. She couldnât believe that this was happening right now. It was a strange feeling to know that somebody felt the same way towards you. Maya made sure to keep her eyes locked with his, never moving away from his gaze. She wanted him to know that she was serious about every word she said, an eye contact always seemed to do that. Not sure on if she should go in for another kiss or not to show that even more, she decided to take the risk. The blonde copied her same actions from before, hoping this would be okay with Cam.
Campbell laughed at her, waiting for her to join him in laughter but seeing she wasnât kidding. âWait, youâre being serious?â He asked, furrowing his eyebrows and shaking his head. âImpossible. I freeze up with this blank expression on my face, itâs pretty embarrassing.â Glancing up at Maya, Cam talked while he was thinking, never a smart idea, for him. âI donât know, itâs usually not bad unless theres a lot of people looking at me, their eyes creep me out. Then with girls I usually choke up, even if theyâre not someone Iâm even interested in, but itâs severely worse when I am interested, so I donât know why Iâm not nervous right now, but, Iâm not..â He trailed off, blinking at her and lightly slowing down the pace of his breath. Smiling at their agreement on the stupid reality show, âSo, point proven that I would in fact, just watch you, plotless and all.â After the two had settled the fact them getting a cooking show, or a show in general was very unlikely, the room grew quiet. Wanting so bad to address her comment, but being too embarrassed to try, Cam kept quiet. After the silence had become too unbearable, he decided if she could question him on calling her pretty, he could question her. âTaylor Lautner, heâs hotâ Cam started. âJoseph Gordon-Levitt, hot. James Franco, hot. Just so you know, I donât think these are true, but the general teenage girl population does. I look nothing like any of them. So tell me, where in the world do you get the idea that I, Campbell Saunders, is hot?â He asked, trying his best to keep the mood in the room light, since when she asked him it felt tense and it was one of the most uncomfortable and awkward feelings in the world.
Before he finally muttered out his sad-sack answer, Cam noticed how anxious Maya seemed, and he couldnât quite decipher it. Was she anxious for him to say something along the lines of what he did, or something the complete opposite. All this beating around the bush was enough for Campbell, which is why he decided to be so direct with her about his feelings. She could kick him out and never talk to him again, but sheâd kick him out and never talk to him again knowing the truth.Her reaction wasnât much of a reaction at all, possibly because he gave her little time without giving up on himself, however he couldnât help it, he assumed the worst and didnât want to give her the satisfaction of making him upset. Being stopped in his tracks, Cam looked to his arm where Maya had grabbed him, he looked up to her before being dumb-founded by her planting a kiss on him, one much better than the last. It was longer, it wasnât rushed or flushed with nerves, and more importantly, he knew she wanted it since she was the one who initiated it. Lifting his hand to her back, holding her in place until she pulled back just enough to talk. Shooting her a puzzled expression, he didnât follow what she said, he was too wrapped up in her, literally. When she explained what she meant, a smile crept across his face, which turned into a crimson red from all the excitement and butterflies. He was surprised when she went in for another kiss, it was undeniably clear she was just as awkward when it came to situations like this, so her kissing him twice was just shocking to him.Closing the gap between their chests by pulling her closer, he reciprocated her advancements, but before getting into anything more than kissing, since Cam didnât even know what came next, he responded by just running his hand to her side before releasing it and walking over to the counter they spent a majority of the time and turned to her. âWell, you got me to stay, now give me a reason not to regret it.â He said with a goofy grin, âNot that I would, after that.â He said with a smirk, trying his best to discreetly touch his lips to savor the moment, playing it off as a chin scratch. âHow do you intend on, doing that?â He asked, thinking about the old suggestions, board games, the fire pit and movies. All of which sounded fine, but he wanted to do what she wanted to do.
