I agree with this whole heartedly, but i have a few extra thoughts.
1) while I understand that Ragatha had been suppressing her emotions for so long she still does not have the right to scream at people, and while we all know Jax doesn’t listen she should still find a healthier way to express her anger.
2) Ragatha is fake. She tries so hard to be what everyone around wants her to be and wants from her that she lies, deceives, and (for lack of a better term) manipulates the people around her.
She is so desperate for validation and friendship that she can’t handle the thought of someone hating her that she does everything in her power to get them to like her or find common ground with her, very clearly shown in the scene where she asks Pomni if the Kaufmo situation was “funny”, but immediately switches to “oh yeah it wasn’t” when Pomni disagrees.
3) People pleasing is a form of manipulation.
People pleasing is often a way to get other people to like you, often causing oneself to behave differently around certain people, to do things they don’t want to do, and to bottle up feelings to not worry others, however this behavior is always with intentions.
These intentions can stem from a need for validation, a fear of conflict, fear of abandonment/rejection and to control other’s perception or behavior towards the people pleaser.
The point of people pleasing is to keep peace, but it often causes someone to resent or disconnect from their true self and their emotions.
Ragatha IS manipulative, and while she’s not doing so to intentionally be cruel but quite the opposite, she still is.
3) Ragatha is clearly trying SO hard not to be like her mother. She refuses to show her negative emotions or get mad because that’s probably all she knew her mom to do. She also expects perfection from herself because she was raised to be “perfect” in every sense of the way. Great at everything she does, perfects everything and does so with grace, and if not then she needs to at least keep up a good image.
She is so deep rooted in these ideals that she can’t stop them, however genetics can be VERY strong.
She, while she doesn’t want to, has (in what I believe) anger issues, and I don’t think it’s necessarily stemmed from her mother or whatnot I think it’s because she represses her emotions so much that they boil over, but she is also very toxic at time.
During the scene where she apologizes to Pomni she could’ve easily apologized to Jax normally, could’ve EASILY said “I’m sorry for yelling Jax.” But she didn’t.
She knows exactly what to say to hurt someone because she’s the person (almost) everyone “trusts”… or at least she used to be.
Rather than apologizing like normal she said EXACTLY what she knew would hurt Jax while also “apologizing”. She didn’t have to bring it up again, it wasn’t even apart of the conversation, but she KNEW it would upset Jax, and whether or not it was her intention to upset him she still did it.
Ragatha is an incredible person who is trying so hard not to be like the person who hurt her. She tries everyday to make everyone happy, to help them, to keep them sane and give them someone to talk to, but shes hurting herself in the process. And despite ALL her efforts she’s still being pushed to the side and everyone she’s through her act.
She wants everyone to be happy but at what cost?
She’s unintentionally pushing everyone away, and the stupid sauce incident did NOT help.
She is such a strong person to be fighting so hard to stop a cycle of generational trauma that she could’ve continued from her mother, but she hasn’t, but her way of doing so is to repress all negative emotions rather than finding healthy ways to express them.
I say all of this as a person who sees so much of themselves in Ragatha.
I too have a “problematic” mother (quotations because it’s more than just problematic), I too am a people pleaser, I too struggle with opening up to people, I too am so scared to become like my mother in any way, and I too have created so many different personalities to please every person I am with.
She is trying so hard and I just want to see her let out her emotions (in a healthy way) and maybe make peace with Jax (which I doubt will happen).
I can’t wait to see the next episode.
(I also say this as someone who’s favorite character is Ragatha so bear with me here)
