I absolutely ADORE this scene where Jax gives Pomni this little key to the locked door in her mind because IT MAKES JAX'S REDEMPTION COMPLETELY EARNED AS IT SHOWS THAT SHE WAS WILLING TO OWN UP TO EVERYTHING SHE DID!
She could have chosen to keep the door locked and force Pomni out, but instead, she gave her the key so she could see everything she did since the moment she got into the Circus. She let her see the dark secret of why she ended up in the Digital Circus, and she let her see every single terrible mistake and all the hurt she intentionally and unintentionally caused after confessing that secret to Ribbit.
And that's what this whole scene was! A confession! Because SHE CHOSE TO OPEN UP all of those memories to Pomni (instead of her just coming across them randomly or forcing them out of her), it means that Jax's remorse is completely genuine, as by choosing to do so, it means that she's owning up to every bad thing he did.
So yeah, she may not be a good person, and she may not deserve to be forgiven for all of the bad things she did. But she sure as hell had a very good redemption arc and did a good job at owning up to all of those bad things!
[Edit: As I did with other Jax posts I made recently, I've edited it so that it addresses Jax with she/her pronouns.]
"Jax intentionally doomed the cast!" "Jax was being mind controlled by Caine!" — Both of you are wrong. Here's what I think.
No editing no peer review we die like Gummigoo
Episode 7 was certainly one of the most wild episodes we've seen so far. Lots of twists, lots of ups and downs and a huge lore drop that was thrown right out of the window in the last 5 minutes of the episode.
One of the things that's been capturing the fandom's attention is Jax's "betrayal" that happens when he pushes the red button that presumably would doom the cast to stay in the circus forever.
Honestly, that scene was extremely well done, simply because of how ambiguous everything seems to be, and how it left many people confused on who to be mad at. Jax, or Caine?
The truth is, there's more nuance to this sequence of events than meets the eye. More than some of the fandom is willing to give the show credit for.
Given the timelines of events, it sounds to me that Caine had figured out a routine that worked for his needs (that he has due to unresolved trauma).
Make an adventure -> Have all humans go on that adventure -> Have feedback and reassurance that it was good due to their reactions within said adventure or because they didn't complain. -> Feel good about doing a good job.
Rinse and repeat.
What also probably helped that feedback loop is that Jax and his friends Ribbit and Kaufmo had a great time as a friend group within the circus. And so all the other humans also didn't mind the adventures too much, because everyone kinda had their support networks.
And then Zooble comes along and shows Caine that his way of coping isn't mentally healthy for the humans in the circus actually.
If anything, Zooble did him and the other humans a favor by telling him that his behavior is awful to the people he supposedly loves.
And the tragedy is that he had realized he was awful to the humans (according to Alex Rochon, his VA) and then he gets fucking deleted off the planet. I am going to scream.
I’m DYING over the way she looks him up and down when he says “You’re a cartoon clown”
That face literally says look who’s talking
the little pat pat on pomni's head was cute tho (i'm desperate, don't judge me)
Where's Bubble?
I just noticed throghout the entire flashback scene in epsiode 8 that he dosen't show up. And yes, Bubbles dosen't show up a lot, but for a show which has you pick up on a lot of quiet clues, it HAS to mean something he wasn't around at ALL during a pivotal scene.
