shinoa learns to play piano when she first moves out. it wasn't the first few months and it definitely wasn't planned, but one day she discovers music can bring in emotions that she isn't used to feeling. what is she feeling right now? anger, sadness, frustration?

she doesn't know so she hates it. shinoa never wants to listen to the piano again, she hates it, she hates it. and still, sometime in early winter she finds herself trying to play it and she finds learning music by herself can be really, really hard.

she fails and tries and tries and tries again. it's hard but she does it anyway. and so every time she gets this unfamiliar feeling, she starts playing with the keys. somewhere along the way she gets good at it, not exceptionally good — she still makes mistakes, but it's okay.

it's a hidden talent. something she doesn't think is one, something she doesn't think anyone else would want to know. it's a little secret of her own. unknowingly music becomes the personal space she never had.
