(???):
Asugi hated not knowing where he was and he was pretty sure while he was walking around he had stumbled into another one of those damn portals. Regardless he certainly didnât recognize most of the scenery around him and had only stopped trying to figure out where he was when someone called out to him.
Staring back at him was probably the weirdest thing he had ever seen. It looked like a mirror⊠except older. Well this was in the running for one of the weirdest moments of his life. Crossing his arms at the manâs words he frowned, narrowing his eyes a bit.
âFan? Listenâ I donât even know who you are or why you look exactly like me. So donât  go saying I stole this look from you. My name is Asugi and everything you see here is one hundred percent original.â
The more Gaius looked at Asugi, the more he was reminded of himself in his younger days. The kidâs voice had some maturing to do and his attitude was something that needed to be tweaked. But if Gaius didnât know any better, he could have sworn he was looking into a mirror that showed him his past.
âHeh.â It was the only thing Gaius said as he looked the ninja up and down. If what Asugi said was true, then Gaius would like to know more about this curious doppelganger⊠not to mention the fact that sweets adorned every pocket this kid had, so it would be easy enough to steal a couple without the kid knowing should he learn to trust Gaius.
âSo not a fan, then? Cripes, then you reckon this is some kind of joke the gods are playinâ on me?â he said. What other explanation could there be? Asugi looked and acted like Gaius did as a teenager. If it wasnât the gods behind this mishap, then perhaps it was Tharja messing around with one of her weird hexes again.
As the two stared each other down, Gaiusâ mind wandered. Just where was he from? And how did he get into Ylisse? The garb Asugi wore was rather curious, and Gaius had never seen one dressed like this before. The closest Asugiâs clothing resembled was like a swordsmanâs from Chonâsin.
âYou got a bit of a mouth on you, donât you, squirt? That any way to speak to someone older than you, kid?â he remarked bluntly. A smirk spread across his face as he poked fun at Asugi. He couldnât help it; talking to Asugi was like talking to his teenage self. It was amusing to him and frankly, he wanted to know more.
âIt might be.â Asugi shrugged, still feeling pretty weird about talking to someone who was so... similar. It was downright uncanny and he had to use every bit of his self control to remain calm about it. After all, it was nothing to get freaked out over. Just... mildly concerned.
At his comment he lifted his head a bit, puffing out his chest a little as he let out a huff. âI can talk to people however I want. Do you even know who youâre talking to?â he countered, brushing a bit of hair from his face and then resting a hand on his hip.
âI happen to be one of the best ninjas in all of Hoshido so Iâd watch out before going around calling people a few inches shorter than you squirt.â he replied matter of factly.Â
He wasnât about to go into his whole name, still not even wanting to be associated with the Saizo name or lineage but he was still allowed to be proud of his abilities. Whoever this guy was it was clear he didnât know the threat he was messing with. Then again-- he really didnât know his opponent either, but a good ninja always found out what he needed to know one way or another.
âDo you mind if I ask you a question real quick?â Asugi asked, crossing his arms with a small frown as he hesitantly glanced away. There had been a topic burning up his mind for a few days now and he just wasnât sure who to go to for answers.
He figured he might as well ask Rhajat. As weird as she could be she did know a lot about magic and hexes and the like and he had a feeling they might have something to do with it all. âI get it if youâre like⊠busy or whatever. I could come back later if thatâs better.â he shrugged.
Rhajat sighed. If Asugi needed something she wasnât just going to turn him away even if she was busy. If she didnât help he would just be back later and would probably find a way to interrupt something serious.
âAsugi if thereâs something that you need stop beating around the bush and tell me.â She set the book that sheâd been holding aside. Her study of Nohrian dark magic would have to wait for later. âActing like this just wastes both of our time.â
âAlright. So um... I think someone cursed my dreams or something? And if it was you-- itâs not funny.â Asugi began, shifting his weight on his feet as he thought about how to explain the topic better. He frowned, mulling over his words for a minute before continuing.
âBasically I keep having these reoccurring nightmares about fighting in a war-- expect itâs not this war? Itâs a different one, in a different world, with people I donât recognize. But hereâs the weird part-- when Iâm in the dream I feel like I know all of them personally even though when I wake up I canât even remember their names.â he explained, glancing away.
âI thought maybe it was something I was eating but Iâve changed my diet a bunch and nothingâs changed. Have you ever heard of anything like this? Do you think magicâs involved?â
âAlright, relax. I never said it wasnât your business to be wherever you want. I just said you scared me is allâ and donât bring my dad into this.â Asugi grumbled, crossing his arms with a frown.
âIf you were an assassin I would have attacked you. Youâre lucky I didnât because I was totally ready to.â he replied, narrowing his eyes a bit. His anger was short lived however, letting his shoulders shrug with a sigh as he gave up on being angry at her.
Okay, so many he had let his guard down for a minute there but could anyone blame him? He was practically three feet from camp in the middle of the day. He shouldnât have to worry about attacks then.
ââŠso, do you smell something sweet?â he asked, raising an eyebrow as the sudden scent caught his attention.
She could argue that she had the jump on him all day, she was far too stubborn to relent that point, she blinked when Asugi asked about a sweet smell.
Her attention turned to the small bag tied to her belt on her hip.
âPerhaps you smell this?â She tapped the bag with her finger, so what if Asugi had a sweet tooth, perhaps she could confide in him.
âItâs a bag of sweets I got from your uncle.â She muttered, undoing the bag from her belt, there were colorful balls of candy inside that she hadnât heard of before, nor tried, but she wanted to.
Asugi was very public about his sweet tooth, but Rinkah was very secretive about hers, she couldnât show weakness, not even to her allies.
Even if that meant hiding the fact that she loved her some sweets.
âIf I split the bag with you will you promise not to tell anyone I came out here to eat candy?â
Asugiâs eyes widened when she showed him the bag of sweets and at the promise of getting half the bag he immediately nodded. Itâs not like he wouldâve told anyone about this anyway-- who did he talk to? The fact that he was getting these for basically free was the best news he had gotten in a while!
âYeah, I promise not to tell anyone, now hand âem over.â he grinned, licking his lips in anticipation. By the looks of it they looked like the types of candies you could suck on-- his favorites.Â
They even seemed to be kind of expensive too. Not incredibly so but enough that his mouth was practically already watering. Where had his uncle even gotten these? And what was he doing giving them to someone like Rinkah?
âUh... so if you donât mind me asking, how come Uncle Kaze gave these to you?â he asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.Â
âż Â âDum dee dum dee dum~â
âż Â Midoriâs tiny little legs marched around camp happily. Unlike some of the others, Midori appreciated the quiet days in camp. She didnât get to fight a lot because of her Dad, so she was stuck with making medicine back at camp. Camp was full of interesting people, well, interesting to her. You had your Nohrians, your Hoshidans, your shapeshifters⊠Heck, Rhajat once tried to recruit a Faceless as a pet.
âż Â And then there was Asugi.
âż Â Asugi was Midoriâs cousin, and son of Uncle Saizo the lame Fifth. Uncle Saizo was kinda scary, but Asugi was nothing like him. Asugi was more amusing and he liked candy for one. He never liked sharing his candy thoughâŠ
âż Â Midori squeaked gently as her cousins voice broke her out of thought. âO-oh! Hi Asugi! No, Iâm not doing anything right now, why?â
âOh, perfect.â Asugi smiled, placing a hand on his hip as he grinned down at his little cousin. Oh, the endless possibilities of trouble he could get up to with her. Especially now since she wasnât involved in anything.
âYou feel like having some fun with me?â he asked, an innocent enough question. To be quite honest he hadnât actually yet formed up a plan of what to do once he requited her into his endeavors but he was sure he could rely on her to bounce ideas off of.
Even if she didnât have an opinion on the matter he was sure heâd be able to think up of something that hadnât done in a while. It wasnât that hard to entertain yourself around camp when you had a cousin as cute as Midori by your side.

There was a look of displeasure on Rhajatâs face as she looked up from her book. âAsugi, what do you want?â
âDo you mind if I ask you a question real quick?â Asugi asked, crossing his arms with a small frown as he hesitantly glanced away. There had been a topic burning up his mind for a few days now and he just wasnât sure who to go to for answers.

While she hadnât expected to catch Asugi out here, at least she hoped it was Asugi this time, meeting that doppleganger still left her confusedâŠ
At any rate, she hadnât expected to find the ninja out here, even more so she hadnât expected to be able to sneak up on the son of Saizo the fifth.
âItâs my business where I choose to go.â She had originally come out here to eat a bag of treats Kaze had given her, so no one would find out about her secret sweet tooth.
âIâm surprised you didnât realize I was behind you until now, if I were an assassin, youâd already be dead. Saizo would be so disappointed.â
âAlright, relax. I never said it wasnât your business to be wherever you want. I just said you scared me is all-- and donât bring my dad into this.â Asugi grumbled, crossing his arms with a frown.

â...so, do you smell something sweet?â he asked, raising an eyebrow as the sudden scent caught his attention.

Gaius only stares at this kid, wondering if Asugiâs a fan of his or something. It wouldnât be the first time heâs been told he had fans. After all, it was the whole reason Anna wrestled him into those smallclothes back in the Hotrealm, right? Having fans wasnât a new concept to Gaius.
Still, did this kid have to dress in a similar way? And the candy shtick was his ownâwho said Asugi could copy that, too? And that headband⊠Gods, Gaius knew he had fans, but he didnât think theyâd be this unoriginal. And oddly⊠he feels threatened.
âWell, thatâs cute. Didnât know I had fans. Guess what they say is true: imitation is the highest form of flattery,â Gaius remarks sarcastically. âSo you took my name too by any chance? Or just everything else, kid?â
Asugi hated not knowing where he was and he was pretty sure while he was walking around he had stumbled into another one of those damn portals. @wickedthievery
Sitting on the outskirts of camp on watch wasnât exactly Asugiâs favorite activity to do but it did give him a lot of free quiet time. There usually wasnât a lot going on and he often just took the time to reflect on life and count candy. However today he found that there was actually something to look out for-- a girl with long braids walking through the area. Well this ought to be fun.
She seemed too young to be a proper threat to anyone in the army but the way she was moving had him suspicious. Maybe she was just lost? She seemed to be looking for something judging by her actions... Deciding to be cautious he watched her for another moment before dropping down from his hiding spot to land beside her.
âHey, you lost or something?â he asked, pushing the tails of his headband back over his shoulder.
@sxvxgeprincess
Asugi found that he spend a lot of his free time just wandering around the outskirts of the camp. He would say that most of his time was dedicated to making candy but sitting around and waiting for it to dry wasnât exactly something he did a lot. Instead heâd just walk off and enjoy the scenery-- he had to admit it was one of the perks of traveling a lot.
Having thought he was alone out there the sudden sound of loud footsteps behind him caused him to freeze up, his hands immediately going for his shuriken. He turned quickly, ready to attack only to realize at the last minute that it was just Rinkah.Â
âGods-- I nearly attacked you. When did you get so quiet?â he asked, letting out a sigh of relief as he put his weapon away.
@reliablechemist
Asugi had never realized how boring being in an army could be. When they werenât traveling or fighting the days in camp seemed to blur together, barely finding anything to entertain himself these days. It was especially painful when they were nowhere near any towns so he was just stuck with the people in the army.
Desperate to find something to entertain himself with the ninja found himself seeking out his little cousin, Midori, knowing the two of them could probably get into some trouble together. Did he sometimes abuse her cute face to get them out of trouble after he got them into it? Yes. But that didnât mean that it was the only reason he picked her out of anyone to be an accomplice. He did actually enjoy spending time with her.
âHey.â he called when he finally found her, jogging over. âYou doing anything right now?â
