Current Events and Social Issues
Politics- mainly using my platform to be hopeful, and not cynical when it comes to politics, both in the US and abroad. The world is a mess right now, and I want to focus on what gets us through it.
Palestine- I'll share links for humanitarian aid orgs, but not individual fundraisers for now. I've seen a rise in scam bots recently, so I want to ensure that any money I encourage people to donate is guaranteed to help people who need it.
Intersectionality- I try to view social issues through an intersectional lens. I'm mainly interested in how they impact one another, both with regards to real life and media.
* people person: A people person is an informal term for someone who is friendly, outgoing, and skilled at interacting with others. Key traits include active listening, empathy, and a natural ease in social settings.
it has been Years and I’m still not over how shitty the one direction lyric “I can make the rain fall down like the showers that are british” is. even when I tried to convince myself I liked them in middle school to fit in, I knew that lyric SUCKED

it’s so WRONG. the bulk and beauty of that creature and he’s bowed over in submission because the human has a gun and brainwashing and the threat of torture
they created him and condemned him for it

imagine being kidnapped from your life in the wild and agonizingly molded into the shape of a human Just To See If It Would Work. and not just your body but your mind.
but youll never be good enough for them! youre not one of them and every time you remind them theyll try to remake you over and over
this is why Toes is such a good song to represent the story “and all i ever want is just a little love…. and all i ever want is breaking me apart / i say to the thing that i once was”
to be accepted and loved you have to walk and talk like a human but are you willing to go through the most unimaginable torment to get there? you dont have a choice
the whole thing with edward’s character also fucks me up. the way he propogates the cycle of abuse out of fear of an uprising. he had the chance to free the beastfolk and he took the easy way out. it made me so angry and sad. it was realistic.
you want to be on his side and he does merciful things like killing the tiger man but he also does cruel things out of his own self interest
their abuser dies and theyre on the edge of something but you never find out what it could be because edward goes “he’s not dead, he’s a god, he’s watching you right now, he’ll punish you if you act out” and the beastfolk are terrified
THEY WERE SO CLOSE TO FREEDOM.
but the cult just gains a new leader. and yeah he’s not as bad as moreau. he’s friendly with the beastfolk even. it’s just so hard to look past the way he weaponizes the trauma moreau subjected them to
it’s like. “I didnt hurt you, but if you do something wrong, someone else WILL.”
edward: “if i feel threatened at all by you finally pursuing a natural way of life, your god is going to torture you again. i don’t make the rules.”
“me personally i wouldnt do that but you all deserve it. i fully endorse this.”
you shouldnt have.. (checks notes) walked on four legs. shouldnt have eaten meat. shouldnt have drunk water w/o using your hands. 🤷♂️
there are just so many parallels you could draw. this book can be about so many things.
watched the backrooms movie, & read the island of dr.Moreau today. terrible combo now I have to consider themes of identity, humanity (as in what makes a human a “human”), and various moral & ethical perspectives x2 ffuuuuck 😭😭
the puma woman in dr moreau: embodiment of empathy as pain. a victim of the inherent violence of cultural assimilation. serves to disrupt moreau's colonial and misogynist narrative with her unignorable expression of constant trauma. screams "as if all the pain in the world had found a voice"
