My personal headcannon is that since Farkas and Vilkas are identical twins, and should have been at a similar intelligence level, that Farkas suffered a TBI in his childhood, resulting in dyslexia.

Either that or they both have the different kinds of autism, vilkas being smart but emotionally useless, while Farkas isn’t ‘’book smart’’ but has mad empathy.

I think in a modern AU Farkas wouldn’t be as ‘behind’ vilkas as he is in Skyrim, just because of standardized schooling

But I’ve always gotten the impression that the twins were encouraged to study and learn whatever, leading vilkas to gravitate towards books and Farkas to focus mad lad style on the sword.

TBI’s have to be super common in Skyrim, especially In jorrvaskr. I can easily imagine arnbjorn flinging Farkas across the training yard as a joke.

Something I think the Skyrim fandom overlooks way too often is that Arnbjorn used to be a companion. He definitely knew the twins when they were growing up. I like to think that he had a huge influence on their opinions on lycanthropy. I think he taught Farkas the careful and measured control that he has over his beast blood, and his leaving made a big impression on Vilkas about what lycanthropy does to a person
