i have a lot of feelings about working in tech. i’m currently looking for a new job and i keep looking at job descriptions and being like is this really what i wanna do?? do i really wanna be a part of a startup that makes it easier for rich people to get food delivered to their doorstep? do i care at all about delivering a world-class software solution to fortune 500 companies? 

i would really just like to work for trader joe’s for a lil bit and have time to read and think and have the satisfaction that i’m doing some good in the world, even it is a tiny nugget of good. like what’s not to love about trader joe’s...good food, friendly employees, free samples, cool art on the walls.

Interview With a Woman Who Recently Had an Abortion at 32 Weeks

Elizabeth* is 35. She grew up in the South, currently lives in Brooklyn, and has been married for two years. After a previous miscarriage at 10 weeks, she was overjoyed to find herself pregnant for a second time. At 31 weeks, she found out that the baby boy she was carrying wouldn’t be able to breathe outside the womb and would not survive. And at 32 weeks, she flew to Colorado to get a shot that would start the process of a third-trimester abortion; she then flew back to New York to finish the delivery. We talked on the phone two weeks into her recovery.

i am rarely moved to tears but i read this at work this morning and teared up a few times. much love to all women who make this difficult decision and endure this painful, heartbreaking process.

i never write on here anymore but i feel like the older i get the less i respect men? is that a thing? not even in like a boys are douches/fuckboys/scrubs kind of way, just like i find it hard to respect men as much as i respect women. i don’t know what it is, maybe i’m just now more aware of how much easier it is to navigate the world as a man than a woman, or maybe i’ve been spending 90% of my time hanging out with girls lately that my tolerance for men has just dwindled. i’m also tired of my guy friends always talking about trying to get laid lol

side note i’ve also seen some dope women speak irl this year...jessica williams at school...mindy kaling in sf...deirdre mccloskey at grad (her actual speech wasn’t great but she’s super badass in general)

I was reading something this week, and I can’t remember what it was, but it was some kind of interview or something, and the person offhandedly mentioned that a moment of great success/when all eyes are on you is the most important time to thank the people who got you there, because then you’re sharing the light and spreading the success instead of hoarding it like some terrible monster. And when I read it, I was like, “That makes such healthy, perfect sense.” And now I just scrolled upon this Mr. Rogers thing and like, of course. Of course this beautiful man had that same idea and executed it so sweetly.
