Just thinking about this moment in Mutant Apocalypse
Where in a quiet moment of going through the desert, Raph's driving and Don-Bot is analyzing the terrain... and Mira is sleeping.
This shouldn't mean anything until you think about every detail, like Mira's tragically unelaborated backstory of her whole clan being killed off, leaving her as the sole survivor.
And there's the whole world of the apocalypse. Everyone is hostile. Groups make negotiations for trade and survival. There is nothing done without an underlying goal.
People can't trust anyone willy-nilly unless they're close family or allies. It's why Raph and Donnie have only trusted and kept looking out for each other because before they found their family again, they were all they had.
And in the moment where Donnie rescues Raph and explains everything that happened after Mira stole the Shellraiser, Raph is all in to abandon her because he doesn't trust her..
And he eventually does the next time she attacks him.
He only trusts her once she helps him and Donnie in the fight with Verminator Rex.
And what seems to be a day or more passes as they search for Mikey, the two are awkward and Don-Bot's the one initiating most of the conversations to get something going, but it's clear that the three all trust each other now. (At least enough to not back stab each other.)
Then after talking about her hope for Oasis and escaping danger in the desert, they keep moving.
And when the alarms start going off and wake her up, Raph notices. His eyes shift a bit in her direction when she stirs awake.
Just before really looking turning his head to check on her while Donnie starts explaining.
And Mira is barely awake. While Raph is fully alert.
In a world where nobody is truly safe and can trust anyone, Mira felt safe enough to sleep next to the turtle ready to leave her for dead just days ago.
And Raph trusted her enough to let her stay with them as well as keep her safe.
I can not get enough of these two.
