The first part of the story, as I’ve said, is mostly Caroline collapsing under the weight of her husband’s death and succumbing to the leering eye of a man who collects things — even people — and uses them as he likes. The second part of this story is about Caroline recognizing what she’s let happen to her and beginning to take some control back. But that won’t come easily — a sudden change, a new chance at least that comes with its own risks, the looming presence of her mistress, the Jurists (we haven’t even met yet), the FBI, her daughter and what secrets lie buried still. All of it will add up to a very dangerous (and erotic) second act in The River.
