A figure comes out of nowhere, and whams straight into a tree. She's then struck with a skateboard moving faster than should be possible.
"Ah, fuck. That hurt"
Explorer winces as the poor being is hit by the skateboard, sympathizing with her plight.
"Do... you need any help?" They ask, concerned.
"Nah. I'll be fine"
She gets up, and grins, having absolutely no physical injuries at all, despite the fact that the impact should have done a LOT of damage.
"I'm fairly sturdy"
"... I can definitely see that," Explorer cautiously responds. "... Does this happen to you often?"
"Oh yeah. Hella often."

"I'm fairly sturdy"
this one is for true skaters
A familiar ghost shows up on the castle grounds.
"Hey Merlyn! I learned Modern English!!"
Hazel's smile is so bright.
Unfortunately, that doesn't last long, as a loud explosion rings out. Outside, they would find a scene similar to the anomalous orb, but instead, it's a pulsating humanoid. Its face is unmistakably that of a terrified person... And unlike any of the orbs, it looks directly at Merlyn, and utters a single word in an unknowable tongue.
Perhaps not unknowable, as Hazel's runes on her ears glow, and she utters the translation.
"Help"
Merlyn had been smiling back at Hazel, getting ready to say something in return, when the explosion happened.
Words fell away after that, for a little bit. They approached the person, holding out a hand for them to take if they wished. She wasn't sure how to help, not yet, but she could at least get them inside.
They're too large to bring in through a general doorway, but he reaches out to take Merlyn's hand. They slip, and the hand slams onto the ground, which partly disassembles, trying to join with the humanoid mass. The thought would occur to Merlyn that touching him would likely be a bad idea.
However, Hazel seems to realize something. She fearlessly grabs the humanoid, and successfuly lifts them upward. Having no physical mass, due to being a Ghost, she suffers no consequence.
"We need to stabilize them." She frowns, then claps her hands once - she would snap but the hazmat made that just about impossible. "Can you bring him to my lab? I've been studying something that should help."
Hazel nods, and carefully creates a magical portal through the wall, so she doesn't have to worry about doors. In a few minutes, they've brought him to the lab. Hazel uttering reassurances to them, which remain untranslated to Merlyn.
Merlyn makes a mad dash for Tonya's arm - she had already extracted a few cells to study under a microscope, and a few more to propogate, and there was some DNA in the centrifuge right now that she had been hoping to look at further too. But for now, she just gathered it all into a large syringe - hoping that whatever had allowed Tonya to be stable was inside that DNA and would work on this new person too. It would have been better if she could have designed a CRISPR-style dna altering virus, but there wasn't any time.
It was a gamble, a mad one - but that tended to get them the best results anyway.
"Hold them still please, and wish us all luck."
Hazel holds them still, using magic to pull away the excess material, exposing a point where the needle could reach the flesh, while reassuring them, in the same indecipherable tongue
Merlyn would normally put a numbing agent on first, but something was telling her that it would do very little good in this instance. So she just stuck the needle in and pushed the dna soup out into him.
"I really hope that does what I think it will. If it doesn't, we're gonna have a problem on our hands."
After a few stressful moments, the dirt and stone forming the majority of the humanoid figure falls away, revealing a figure who looks to be roughly 16. His hair is blue, matching their eyes. They seem to be roughly 6'7. A pair of black, curling horns sit on the sides of his head, and there are a few scars and cracks across their skin, likely from what was happening earlier.
He looks around, very, very confused.
"Are you alright kid?" Merlyn asks. "You're pretty far from home, from what I can tell..."
Hazel immediately starts acting as translator.
"What's going on, here? Everything's so... weird..."
"Given the way that you showed up, your initial instability, and the way I managed to fix it... I think you are from a different reality than this one. I don't know how you got here, but I do know that other particles from there have been showing up and wreaking havoc. And given the properties of that reality, I don't think my time machine is able to reach there so I doubt I can send you back."
"Oh... So there's no way back... I hope..."
He trails off, and Hazel stops in response
"Not yet." She shakes her head softly. "I can work on it, but yours is a world where physics is the inverse of here. That complicates things, makes them dangerous."
"I just hope..."
Hazel trails off, pausing, before asking him something. After getting the response, she continues.
"I just hope Zaquiel will be alright"
Merlyn nods slowly. "I don't know who that is, but I hope so as well. In the meantime, let's concentrate on making sure You are alright, hmm?" They smile softly at him, and then turn to Hazel. "I think you can put him down now, if you want. I've got a big bean bag chair in here that should fit him."
Hazel nods, putting him down, and he continues looking around
"Right, I believe introductions are in order," she chuckles, "I have a tendency of leaving them for later than they should be... I'm Merlyn, a mad scientist. This is my lab... And the person translating is Hazel, she's a ghost."
"Vonaiel"
"Nice to meet you, Vonaiel," she says. "We're probably going to have to teach you English, just to be safe, but if you help me with the programming of it I can whip up a translation device for you... I've already got one for myself, but it doesn't recognize the language you're speaking."
They perk up. It would seem Merlyn has discovered a Special Interest.
"I love Programming!"
"That so?" She smiles a little wider. "Well lucky for you I do a lot with robotics, so there should be plenty for you to help with there... It'll probably not be the same programming languages as you're used to, though."
Around this time, Tonya walks down into the lab, carrying a figure that's roughly 7'1, with yellow hair.
"Hey Merlyn. I found a child. Help"
Vonaiel looks over, and exclaims "Zaquiel!" While running over, latching onto the taller boy
Merlyn cackles.
"Well. That answers that question... What specifically did you need help with, Tonya?"
"He seems to have decided I'm his new parent? I don't know how to raise children."
Tonya carefully places Zaquiel down, and Vonaiel picks him up, despite him being much taller.
Zaquiel speaks, and Hazel translates.
"Thank you for taking care of..."
She trails off, and looks a bit confused.
"That doesn't really translate. Give me a few minutes."
The 3 of them start talking, as Hazel tries to grasp how to translate whatever it was she was struggling with
While they figure out that snafu, Merlyn continues speaking to Tonya.
"Alright, if he trusts you enough for that keeping him yourself is probably the best course of action. Do you have the basics - food, shelter, all that?"
"Yeah. I did alot of skating competitions, and got alot of money. Then people started getting suspicious at how good i was. I had some... Unhealthy habits at the time, so I ended up getting banned from the competition..."
She sighs.
"It was a rough time, but I managed to stabilize my life, so I should be able to support him"
"Okay, that's good," they nod. "He's a teenager, so most of the hardest parts are already done. Just make sure you listen when he talks, and do your best to be supportive of his choices and give advice when he seems to need it, and just... try to be there for him."
"Yeah. Though, considering he's from another world, age might work differently."
She sighs.
"Though, I'll have to figure out an income situation. OSHA was enough for just me, but I don't think it'll cut it anymore"

She sighs.
"It was a rough time, but I managed to stabilize my life, so I should be able to support him"
A strange particle floats in from nowhere, and lands on one of the outer walls of the castle. Immediately, a massive explosion rings out, as the wall collapses
"Fucking hell I swear I just fixed that from the Last thing..." Merlyn sighs heavily, and goes over to inspect the damage, with several of the robot guards in tow, just in case, and Caledfwlch on their back and a shrink ray in a hip holster.
"Alright if there's anything with malicious intent speak now or get the hell out please."
The stone from the wall gravitates together, into a vague orb, with several tendrils of rubble sprawling outward.
"This is your final chance to say you're here to talk, y'know," they say, drawing their sword and spinning it a few times. "I only fight people if it's the last option."
It seems that it can't understand her. Or at least, doesnt acknowledge the words. The tendrils snake around the surrounding space, as they also begin to lash out at random
She sighs, again, and decides to try the shrink ray first, firing it at the center of the orb as that was the most stable target.
Nothing.
A tendril lashes out directly at Merlyn
They dodge it by rolling backwards, quickly discarding the shrink ray.
"Interesting..." Her eyes narrow, and lightning flashes in the clouds above. "Well, as much as I'm sure you're perfectly able to recover from this," she says, taking an experimental slash through a nearby tendril with Caledfwlch, "I wouldn't be much of a scientist if I didn't Test that theory, Would I?"
Just like with the fleshy humanoid earlier, the matter simply reattaches itself
"Yeah, that was too much to hope, wasn't it," they grimace, and lightning flashes again as it begins to rain.
"What have I got left..." she glances at the robots, ineffectually trying to clobber the rocks and rebuild the walls. That was going to be a lot of repairs, later. If there was a later.
"Did I leave the lightning gun in the armory or is it in my bag," she mutters, starting to dig through it with one hand while continuing to dodge the tendrils - helped by the fact that their attacks did not seem focused yet.
One of the tendrils manages to trip Merlyn, and 3 others go to stab at their chest.
Instead, they whack a skateboard into her, which appeared out of nowhere. A loud thud can be occurred, as someone collides with the strange being at high speed, causing them both to crash into the wall.
"Thanks for the save!" they call out, shimmying out from under the tendrils - making sure to grab the skateboard as a shield. "You got any idea about this thing's weaknesses? If I get enough time I can whip up a device to exploit them."
"... Creviol figured it out. Its weakness is us. That's why he awakened the rest of us"
"Fuck, I hate it when I'm power-scaled out of the picture." Thunder rumbles as she slaps another tendril away with the skateboard. "You want me to just leave you to it then? Cuz I don't think I'm gonna be of much use if that's the case."
They wipe the rain from their hazmat helmet's view-screen, with a slight squeaking sound. The rain was already coming down in sheets.
"I mean, if I get the time I could Maybe make some kind of ray that mimics whatever it is y'all have got going on, but it's not like I can do that in the middle of combat-"
"It's from another universe. And we're the fragments of the being that created that universe. Speaking of which..."
9 rings of runes form around her body, varying in length and position. The runes begin to fuse into her body, with a brief glow.
Then, she moves with impossible speed, nearing that of Light, grabbing the skateboard, and striking the abberation with enough force to launch it into the sky. Then, placing a foot on her skateboard, she forms 5 rings of runes around it. A strange energy also wraps around her body, which starts to warp. Then, in an instant, she pierces straight through the strange being, covering precisely 3 kilometres in distance.
The rubble falls back to the ground, as dust.
Tonya then reappears, smiling as the glow dies down
"And that's that!"
"Huh." The rain continues to fall. "Any chance you could use your abilities to fix my wall, or am I gonna have to do it the hard way?"
They poke dispassionately at a nearby piece of rubble. "Man, that was 13th century too..."
She shakes her head. "Anyway, if it's being from another universe, I could maybe replicate that if you're willing to give up a bit of hair or spit or something to the cause. No guarantees though, I'd have to think about it more and only if you're willing-"
She just. Slashes of one of her own arms and hands it to Merlyn. Another grows back in just a few minutes
"Thanks, that should be plenty of material to work with," she says, handing the arm off to one of the intact robots with instructions to go and put it in cold storage.
"If I manage to make something that works I'll let you know."
"Since I'm still technically partly human, you'll have to try to separate the information"
"Easily enough done, but thanks for saving me the headache of figuring out that I need to," they nod. "So... That thing was from another universe, but like. Why was it here?"
"... An alternate multiverse has drifted too close. Extremely tiny pieces are falling from one to the other. I suspect that this one was only around the size of a subatomic particle. But this alternate reality... is unlike any you would have seen before. It's like antimatter to matter. These particles don't belong, and cause anomalies in reality itself."
"Only instead of just making both implode on contact it makes monsters..." They frown, tapping their fingers on their arm. "I don't know how to feel about all this being done without any malicious intent..."
"There's no malicious intent from tornadoes, earthquakes or tsunamis. We must simply minimize the damage that comes"
"Well, no, but I'm not exactly from an area particularly prone to any of those so seeing the damage firsthand is new." She sighs again, shoulders slumping. "You're right, of course. I'd best get to the drawing board then - for the new project and repairs here both."
"Yeah. Good luck"
"Yeah..." they stretch their arms, with a slight popping sound coming from some of their joints. "Alright. Thanks again for the help! Let me know if there's anything I can do for you, alright?"
And with a final wave, they turn to go back inside the castle.
Tonya just yeets herself into the distance
A strange particle floats in from nowhere, and lands on one of the outer walls of the castle. Immediately, a massive explosion rings out, as the wall collapses

Hey, It's been a while, nice to see you, yada yada, anyway...
I need your expertise.
*Hands over a large file full of their notes and pictures from the violation orb incident*
What in the Nine Hells was this nonsense????
@union-of-mad-scientists
Relita looks over the notes, and pictures.
"Well Fuck. That would be Creviol."
Merlyn grimaces at Relita's expression. "I mean I already knew it wasn't gonna be good news, but how much trouble is this Creviol?"
"Depends on what they're planning. My guess would be that he's aiming to awaken the... Other 5 of... us. Which could either be extremely bad, or just neutral. That would explain where the beam of light went as well."
She sighs.
"The main issue is that they're going to be very distressed about the sudden flip of their reality"
"Well, yeah, that would be disorienting..." she taps her fingers on her arm. "What information do you have about the others?"
"Well. I suspect this first one to be my counterpart, who currently goes by Tonya Heroine. Her Eldritch Aspect is easily one of the strangest, representing a direct opposition to mine, which is Physics"
".really?" a slightly confused look crosses their face, gears clearly turning behind it. "What's the opposite of physics?"
"Don't think about it too hard. It gets worse if you account for the fact that she technically came first"
"Urgh... I'm just gonna think of it as Chaos for now then," they agree. "Though it might keep me up at night for a bit."
"Hm. Except that Chaos is a different one. But there's 2 that kinda represent order, so... yeah. Makes more sense if you think about it like that."
They smile.
"Now, to find where she is. Not too hard, since we know what direction to look. Should we go there now?"
"...I suppose," she says. "Tanya isn't likely to attack us, is she?"
"No. Tonya's a bit unpredictable, but she's kind at heart. She is very fond of skateboarding nowadays. I've been observing her during my time around here"
They smile a little, and nod.
"Alright, yeah let's go then. And we can all talk about whatever's going on together."
They'd know they're there by the combination of a potent eldritch presence, and the large chunks of ground floating well above where they should be.
"Well. We've found her"
Merlyn was, of course, completely unable to sense the eldritch presence. But the chunks of floating ground were clue enough.
"Hmm. Yeah, I can see that... You said she liked skateboarding, right? Maybe she's on that halfpipe-shaped one?" they point it out.
"Perhaps. It may be a good idea to head the that one first though"
They point to the one furthest up.
"We will be able to see almost all the others from there, and from there, see her"
"Yeah, fair," they say, "But how are we getting up there anyway? I didn't exactly bring rocket boots."
"The area is filled with a chaotic flow of her essense and power. I can exert a level of influence over that, through our duality."
The air seems to shimmer, forming a vague link between the ground before them, and the nearest floating chunk of ground. Relita walks forward, before her momentum seems to abruptly shift directly upward, her walking motion causing her to move to the floating island at high speed, before landing as though nothing happened.
Merlyn follows cautiously, going a little tense at the sudden shifts in gravity, and they take a few extra steps once on the chunk, just to make sure that she was really there.
"Alright. Now, onto the next one."
They pause, causing the air to shimmer again, before stepping off the ground, following a path that loops around itself twice to reach the next floating piece of ground.
Merlyn stays just a few steps behind, wondering a bit at the inefficiency of the loops.
Almost as though she knew Merlyn would wonder this, they respond.
"We have to move in parallel to the flow of her power."
The next pathway comes in the form of an ascending spiral, closing in at the piece of ground at the very top.
"Alright, I'll just have to accept that then," she says. It was a good think they weren't prone to motion sickness...
Now at the top, they could look around at the other chunks, and would find that Tonya indeed was on the Half Pipe shaped island, and that she was unconscious
"..." Merlyn takes a few steps in that direction. "Normally I would make some kind of sarcastic remark about being right, but I think we should concentrate on helping her for now."
The air shimmers again, and Relita jumps off the floating ground, path twisting, not unlike a slide at a park, as it brings her to the area where Tonya is.
She jumps too, landing a little clumsily next to Relita.
"She seems to be alright. If we move her anywhere, the flow of her power will affect there as well. It would be best to wait for her to wake"
"Ah, so just asleep rather than knocked unconscious then?" they nod. "Well, I can wait."
After a while, Tonya wakes up.
"What the fuck just happened?"
She sits up, and looks curiously at Merlyn and Relita
"Well, you were out when we got here so I don't really know," she says, "But if I had to hazard a guess I think it's to do with Creviol coming back and firing off a beam of light in this general direction."
"Creviol?"
Tonya looks very confused.
"Don't worry about it for now. I'll explain later"
"The main thing for now is he's an asshole," Merlyn says. "Anyway, what do you remember? From right before passing out, specifically."
"Well, I was moving very fast, after doing some tricks on my skateboard. Then, suddenly there was a flash of light, and I fell to the ground. Then, I just passed out. I had a really weird dream, as well. I think it may have been some kind of war? But only snippets."
"Huh." They shrug. "Well, I don't know what that means. You got any ideas, Relita?"
"...Don't worry about it"
"Fine then," she says, "But what are we going to do now?"
"Tonya. Are you able to undo the effects of your abilities around here?"
"I think so."
The ground they're on rumbles, as all the floating pieces of ground return to where they originally were. The strange feeling in the air vanishes, as things return to normal
"There we go"
Since it didn't seem that they would be going anywhere anytime soon, Merlyn sat down on the ground.
"Alright, so, we know that the beam of light is probably what knocked Tonya out then... Does this tell us anything about Creviol's motives, and whether we should be worried about his presence?"
"Not really. Thankfully, this tells us that their personality won't change in any way. At least, not yet."
"Mhmm. Yeah, keep an eye out for thoughts that don't feel quite like yours, I guess," she says. "But I seriously doubt that he only meant to knock you out for a bit... There's got to be something more to this."
"Well. It would be that he wasn't actually after Tonya. Think of it like reincarnation."
"Hang on. What?"
"I would appreciate a more detailed explanation, please."
Relita sighs.
"Long ago, well before this plane existed, there were 10 of us. We call ourselves The Fragments. But, around the time this plane came into existence, 5 of us died. Except, we can't actually die, so we would be reincarnated at a later point in time. The reincarnations would have no memory of being a Fragment, and would bear only a fraction of their true power."
She gestures to the surrounding area.
"Now, Creviol seems to have decided to unlock the rest of their power, and likely, some of their memories"
"Oh." She shrugs. "Well, I've heard stranger. You doing alright with all this, Tonya?"
Tonya looks as though she's having an existential crisis
Merlyn reaches out to pat her on the shoulder.
"It'll be alright."
"Y-yeah..."
She takes a shaky breath.
"I think I'll be mostly alright now"
"Good." They nod once. "Also, there's a therapist at OSHA I can probably help get you set up with if you need... But no rush."
"Yeah. Anyway. I think I'll be off now"
"Yeah..." she hums a little, before her eyes widen suddenly. "Ah, wait! Names! I know your name, but I don't think you got mine - I'm Merlyn. Uh. In case you wanted to know."
"Merlyn, huh? Yeah, that makes sense"
She tilts her head to the right.
"That is... An Unusual response."
"You know how some people just really seem to fit their name? It's like that"
"Hmm, fair," they smile, "I kept it for a reason, after all."
She smiles.
"Fair enough."
"But we should probably be letting you go..."
"Yeah. I'll see how fast I can go this time"
She puts a foot on her skateboard, before picking up a rock. She throws it in a seemingly random direction. Then, she pushes off with her skateboard, and disappears, moving way faster than should be allowed by normal physics.
Hey, It's been a while, nice to see you, yada yada, anyway...
I need your expertise.

Hey, It's been a while, nice to see you, yada yada, anyway...
I need your expertise.
*Hands over a large file full of their notes and pictures from the violation orb incident*
What in the Nine Hells was this nonsense????
@union-of-mad-scientists
