Are you tired of AI-generated fan content and don't want to reblog it accidentally, but aren't able to properly recognise the signs and tells?
I'd love to help you out 🙂↕️🫶 Unfortunately, it's not always as simple as "look at the hands".
To the people who told me they feel stupid for not being able to spot the signs: Spotting gen-AI content isn't a test of smarts, it's a test of exposure.
Explanations under the cut!
Logic
Generative AI tends to get complicated objects wrong. Faulty logic needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis, but I'll give you an example anyway.
In the video stills of AI-generated hansry gifs below, the AI had to make up parts of the clothing because they were cropped out or otherwise hidden - and did a terrible job.
The pourpoint in the first picture usually has a row of buttons going all the way down to the belt. Here, they suddenly stop in the middle of the chest.
In the second picture, Henry's gauntlet has no fingers... All gauntlets in the game cover the entire hand.
And speaking of gauntlets: In the third picture, the gauntlet's bottom part is the wrong way around. What you can see in the picture is supposed to be the inside of the gauntlet...
It's worth mentioning that the movement in the gifs is very uncanny, too. But this is more of a feeling, not something I can point out with examples.
Continuity
This is often seen in AI-generated comics. Across panels, a character's appearance might change.
This example is a page preview of KCD2's comic book which has since been taken down. Watch the man lose his micro bangs over the course of a single panel.
Another example is objects blending into or vanishing behind other objects - interrupting their continuity.
Behind this man's back, his spear isn't connected.
And the gun's strap... disappears into the woman's sleeve?? Not to mention her arm is completely dislocated.
Symmetry & Patterns
Symmetry tends to be off, too, especially in jewellery.
For example: mismatched/missing earrings.
And patterns... Oh, patterns. They're a mess. WHAT ARE THESE.

I don't think I need to elaborate here... AI-generated belts don't make any sense. What are some of these wrapping around? Why are most of the buckles not functional?
People claiming they're against gen-AI and then happily reblogging gen-AI content because it's for their fictional ship - the hypocrisy writes itself.
I can't fault anyone for not recognising the signs of AI-generated content; there's no shame in that. But if you can spot it, claim to be against it yet still share it? That's a choice.
