Pigeons!!
When every creature in a 50 mile radius desires the total destruction of sunflower seedlings
Put a barred owl box up in January, and they finally found it
In the woods
I rarely get to see them outside of the yard visit so, this was very cool :)
They’re not kidding about the immunity cute ones get. As far as I know, there are no native forget-me-nots for here so, this is not a great sight from that perspective. From a ‘pretty flower only’ standpoint, I love it but, from a ‘I want to help the bees’ standpoint, this is really bad
Okay well, this guys having a good time apparently
Female ruby-throated hummingbird [May 2026]
Native plant seeds ordered from a local business!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉! This is a start at least! Mostly hoping to get some perennials established in the yard well I’m working on invasive species up in the woods. Eventually then I’ll chip away into getting more natives in the woods once they’re not in the nightmare they are right now.
But mainly: I GOT NEW ENGLAND ASTER SEEDS FINALLY!! I FUCKIN LOVE NEW ENGLAND ASTERS, AND THEY’RE A NATIVE SPECIES!!
New England asters <3
THEY’RE HERE!!!
The amount of English ivy I’m still seeing being sold is… not great.
I think grosbeak watch is over. They give me a couple of visits and then they move on. This does mean I can take down my, kind of ugly, feeder finally, and get my hummingbird one set up instead. It was awesome to see so much of the female after she was a no show last year
Rose-breasted grosbeak female/male [May 2026]
Here’s some good plant news: this is native blue cohosh! There’s actually loads of these all over in the woods! They have a very healthy population here. Now I don’t know if it’s the early, or the northern variety but, definitely is blue cohosh.
I think.. I think this is Japanese barberry… SIGH
Oh great, more…
Destroyed them, obliterated them, killed them.

Break from the invasive plants to share this little cutie! North American porcupine
Nine, five gallon buckets worth of garlic mustard removed if anyone is curious… There’s still more so, at least estimating 10 or 11 in total. I got the last big patch of it today (that I know of)
There’s a lot of really small, seedling ones around still
Only seen Canada lilies out in the wild once. Really hope to get some one day as they’re a great native alternative to the borderline invasive day lilies that have overtaken a lot of the roadsides
I think.. I think this is Japanese barberry… SIGH
Oh great, more…
