How long did it take you to learn and sign fluently? I have the alphabet memorized, but it's hard to do it at a good speed.
Hello there, anon! Thank you for your message :>Like every language, it takes time, and everyone is different. I had a great friend who was also my teacher, so I became fluent in the language in about a year and a half's time. I worked at it every day, though, because she was my motivation - I wanted so badly to communicate with her faster than typing out on our phones. The things that helped me remember everything were signing out the lyrics to the music I listened to, or signing the colors and textures of the fabric I bought for costumes. Little things will help retain your knowledge pretty effectively. But don't worry about your speed! The bottom line is that you can communicate, which is the most important thing in my mind's eye, and that you're making an effort to learn someone else's language. That shows great integrity and spirit, regardless of how quickly you can move your fingers. I figure knowing the letters and signs comes first, and your speed second :3 keep it up and you'll be the Flash before you know it! <3
