The tiktok proship community seems to be SOO full of bait lmao, and the thing that all these bait accounts seem to have in common is that they use the MAP flag.

The SECOND i see a tiktok using that flag, I KNOW it's bait. The entirety of proship is based on the idea of not harassing people over fiction, and yeah, unfortunately there are predators who are proship, but again the majority aren’t, and in fact many proshippers are SA survivors! However, comma, many antishippers tend to think that pedophile and proshipper are synonymous, and ALSO love making bait accounts. Whenever these people do make a bait account, they always make sure to imitate normal proshippers, and will say they hate CSEM and actual pedophilia BUT THEN PROCEED TO USE THE MAP FLAG IN THEIR EDITS AND HEADCANONS!

Let's make one thing clear.

NO NON PREDATORY PROSHIPPER WOULD EVER USE A FLAG, THAT HAS BEEN USED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CHILDREN, FOR A CUTE SHIP OR EDIT.

hey so uh, a little note to fanpol: you do not own fandom. you do not own the main tags, you do not own the characters, and you can't just "decide" who is and isn't welcome here.

you can't just gatekeep an entire fandom. fandom is — and should — be for everybody. i don't like antis. i don't like lots of different types of fans. you won't see me trying to kick them out of fandom though, because everyone is welcome here.

I keep seeing antis confuse the phrases “fiction ≠ reality” and “fiction doesn’t affect reality,” but they’re different! Let me explain.

“Fiction doesn’t affect reality” means that fiction doesn’t have any impact on reality, which a lot of antis try to refute to prove proshippers wrong, but in reality, most of us acknowledge that fiction does have an impact on reality; however, we tend to believe that fiction doesn’t affect reality on a 1:1 ratio, meaning that even though fiction affects reality, it isn’t the end-all-be-all so to speak. If you’d like to know more about it I think this person worded it nicely! So yes, Jaws did change people’s perspective on sharks, but fiction doesn’t always have that big of an affect, especially if you learn the difference between fiction and reality.

Which brings me to my next point. “Fiction ≠ reality” simply means that fiction and reality are not the same, a belief more common among proshippers. Despite the panic that Jaws caused, there were inevitably people who knew more about sharks or became more knowledgeable on them and realized how much false information was in the movie and didn’t panic. They learned to tell the difference between fiction and reality. That’s what proshippers do. We realize that fiction is just that: fiction, and because of this, we can enjoy it through a more free lense. Just because someone enjoys watching Hannibal, doesn’t mean they condone murder and cannibalism. The same thing is true with proshippers. Just because some may ship age gaps, doesn’t mean they support pedophiles. In fact, I ship some adult/child ships to cope with trauma, but as a CSA survivor, I would never support pedophilia. That’s because there is a massive difference between fiction and reality.

So in conclusion, fiction does affect reality; however, if you learn to separate the two, you can realize that fiction isn’t the end-all-be-all, and you can actually learn to enjoy media more and all without supporting any of the characters’ negative actions!
