I’ve just had a CATS 2019 idea.

Maitre D is the real Bustopher Jones

Bustopher Jones used to be his Maitre D

The true Bustopher Jones lost his memory via cartoon-style “amnesia” by blunt-force trauma, and the false Jones took advantage of this to swap their places and identities

There’s a little bit more to this, actually!

The rest of the tribe know Maitre D and Bustopher are in the wrong identities, but they think it’s some weird thing they’re doing, so they humour it. this is why no one seems to acknowledge Bustopher’s absence, and why Maitre D seems so integrated into the tribe alone.

Since this my cope headcanon, Maire D Jones is still Misto’s dad, and even if he doesn’t remember his true identity, he does remember that that there’s his boy. Misto doesn’t know why his rich dad has been apologizing for the life they’ve had to live but he just pats his shoulder with his tail
