Kid Felix - Rivals EP

Kid Felix’s third EP Rivals is like a flashback to the best 90’s grunge music. Nevertheless I don’t reach to understand why this quintet from Philadelphia decided to make just an EP, being so close to a magnificent full lenth. Every song worth the listen and the EP is absolutley fantastic.

Kid Felix have opened for bands as Sound Garden, Alice in Chains or Silvertide and shared the stage with artists such as Cold War Kids, Three Days Grace or Otherwise

The band consist of lead singer Jake Falana, John Ambrutis on lead guitar, Brett Hagen on rhythm guitar, Julian Ungerer on bass, Ken Baxter on the keys, and John Szachewics on drums.

PERSONAL CARE PRODUCT CHEMICALS:  Toxic Chemicals to Avoid

Avoid the following:

.

Artificial Fragrances aka Phthalates (like benzene and toluene)—these are used to make things smell good, however these chemicals are known hormonal disruptors. Instead look for products that use essential oils to make things smell nice.

Sodium Lauryl and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS)—these are foaming agents and they make things lather up. They are usually found in toothpaste, shampoo, body washes and soaps. These noxious substances are skin irritants, hormone disruptors and carcinogenic. Also, be wary of those labels that say “Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (derived from coconut oil)” as they are trying to make it look like it’s natural and non-toxic but the way they make coconut oil into SLS is through a highly chemical and toxin producing process.

Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)—this is a common preservative in skin care products. It’s also the active ingredient in many skin-lightening products. It’s also carcinogenic, causes thyroid problems and has shown to cause reproductive disorders. If you need to lighten your skin, use fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Parabens—we all know to avoid parabens, right? These guys are the worst. They are also used to preserve products for longer shelf life. They are also very disruptive to our hormones—many believe parabens play a significant role in male AND female infertility—as well, they have harmful implications in developing children and have been tied to the higher incidence of breast cancer. Avoid parabens at all costs, period.

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)—this stuff is actually used in oven cleaner products as it is a powerful de-greaser. You will find it in many baby wipes, skin cleansers and lotions, shaving cream, lip balm and even contact solution and laxatives! PEG has been linked to kidney damage, leukemia, breast cancer, uterine cancer and brain cancer.

Michelle Thew: Change Cruelty Free International's Leaping Bunny Logo Requirements

More and more people are trying to shop cruelty free, which is absolutely fantastic for animals. However, Cruelty Free International's current requirements for companies to display their leaping bunny logo and current definition of what cruelty free actually means is actually pretty confusing for consumers who don't want to contribute to the cosmetic animal testing industry. At present, The Body Shop holds the leaping bunny logo. Neither The Body Shop's products or ingredients are tested on animals. Sounds good right? That's where the waters get a bit murky. A lot of people don't realise that The Body Shop is actually owned by Lorèal Cosmetics, a parent company who sells China and do test on animals. Now, how can a company who claims to be cruelty free hold that title, when the money it makes from people trying to shop ethically is lining the pockets of a parent company who profits from the cosmetic animal testing industry. Another example of the leaping bunny logo misleading well meaning customers is the M&S Beauty range. I've recently discovered that the beauty products made for the M&S Beauty range are made by Clarins. Clarins is owned by Esteè Lauder, a company who yet again distributes it's products in China . Just from the people I've had conversations with personally, (meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans) they are absolutely horrified to discover that they've been mislead when trying to do a kind act. I'm not alone in believing that Cruelty Free International should update its requirements to make it easier for people to shop cruelty free and not contribute to companies who profit from animal testing. What we want changed: - Any company who distributes cosmetic products in China should not be able to display the leaping bunny logo. - Any company who is owned by a parent company who distributes cosmetic products in China should not be able to display the leaping bunny logo. Please sign this petition to tell Cruelty Free International that their current definition of what is "cruelty free" needs to be readdressed.
